Art Lane — Restaurant in Almaty

First with positives, trendy upscale artspace. I used to be on the board of directors of an artspace in the States. The arts are near and dear to my heart and I'm always seeking out the arts community in any city I visit or live. Disclaimer- this place seems a bit upscale for me, I'm usually more of a underground type gal myself, but hey! It's art! So...for the rest...I ordered avocado toast with poached eggs and while the poached eggs were perfect the "avocado" part was weird. It was more like light green colored cream cheese. I didn't tastes any avocado at all. For the service, I interacted with 3 employees, the barista & 2 servers. My Russian is still weak. I'm trying, I really am, but I live & work in a 100% English setting and I live outside town. I'm not immersed in Russian. I've become confident in placing orders, responding to basic questions, and having the same conversations with Yandex drivers over and over again. The barista and one server were kind and patient with me, but the 3rd person was so rude to me I will never choose on my own to return here. I spoke with her clearly in Russian, she responded very quickly, I could not understand her, I told her such, I apologized and told her my Russian was very bad, and she gave me a nasty look. Later, when I needed the restroom I asked her where it was and she looked at me as if she wanted me to die. I've traveled all around the world. I'm very accustomed to all kinds of different levels of service in places, I don't expect to be treated like a goddess, but when someone is blatantly rude to me I have desire to return. They don't deserve my money. Plus, there's the whole "avocado" toast thing. The place is...

Very good food and drink options here! I highly recommend their shakshouka! The atmosphere was very artsy feeling, almost regal like, and somewhat quiet inside....
