In January I visited the bakery shop in the Warwick Center in Gigiri for the first time. I was very amazed at the cleanliness and the presentation of the baked goods and the well-groomed appearance of the staff. At the beginning of our 12 week stay near Gigiri, the baguettes took a bit of getting used to for me as a European because of the amount of butter used. I didn't have to get used to the Pain Poolish or the Lemon & Blueberry Muffin. I went to the store with my friend at least 2 to 3 times a week, which of course also reflected the friendly and courteous service from Joy and her colleague Austin. Read moreI used to really love this place but the quality has gone downhill significantly over the last 6 months. The butter they use in their pastries (and there was always a bit too much of it) now tastes like cheese, the products like macarons are not always fresh, and even the bread is not as tasty as it use to be and regularly overcooked. It's like there's no quality control anymore. It's really disappointing because I used to really love it. And being French myself, I used to think this was almost as good as what you find in France....

There is also always something special on offer, like the 2023 Diwali macaron in a spicy-orange flavour that is the most delicious macaron I have ever tasted in my whole life.
