Disappointing Dining Experience at Solange
We began with the chicken and sweet corn soup, which was anything but sweet. Instead, it was disappointingly bland, lacking seasoning. The addition of salt and pepper on the side felt like a way of failure my friend. why should diners need to season a dish that should already be balanced? I asked for some soy sauce but even that couldnt help.
Next came the crispy duck spring roll, which was so dry that it was nearly difficult to swallow. The filling was just a piece of dried duck and a poor lonely half cut pickle offering none of the juice or flavor that one would expect. Had it not been for the Coke i ordered, the experience would have been even more unpleasant, because then i would probably have choked and died from how dry it was.
The peking beef short ribs were another letdown. Rather than some nice glaze, the meat was coated with sugar, as if sugar had been used to compensation for a lack lusterless of actual flavor. It was either tasteless or overwhelmingly one noted, nothing in between. HOW CAN SOMEONE GO WRONG WITH CHINESE FOOD?!
By this point, we had little hope for the remaining dishes. A series of AK-47 misfires, each one reassuring the sense that the kitchen either didnt understand or didnt care about delivering authentic Chinese food. Honestly, it aint worth it. If you are reading this, think twice before you go.
My friend, your creation, Wagamama is incredible. What...
Read moreLet’s start with the good things first, the menu is diverse enough and it wasn’t difficult to find food that’s to everyone’s liking. The vibes are cool, if you are lucky enough to be seated inside. The mediocre? The food is just OK. Honestly I would’ve preferred PF chang’s (back when it first opened not now). Solange’s food is just meh. It’s not great and it’s not bad; just nothing to write home about or to inspire you to want to come back again. The service was slow. Very slow, but our waiter was apologetic and nice enough to make the wait worth it. We went for dinner and between piano sets, the music was a bit too loud.
Now the bad? We were seated outside. In the so called “terrace” which overlooks Behbehani watches. It looks nice enough but you’re basically sitting on yard furniture with cushions between you and the metal of the seats. I had to talk to 3 different people asking to be moved to the “inner sanctum”. One of the hosts was very sarcastic and condescending. The other was nice enough. Also, we ended up with one of the worst tables in my opinion. Directly across from the service station which meant that the staff was always there yet we were somehow always ignored when we called someone. Reservations was for 9:30 pm. Ended up at an inside table round 10, then it took another 20 minutes for us to see a menu.
In the end, I might go again to try it but I won’t be...

Solange is the latest culinary venture by renowned restaurateur Alan Yau. It brings an elevated modern Chinese experience right to the heart of Salhia Mall in Kuwait City. From the moment you arrive, it’s clear this isn’t a minimalist concept—the design is bold, layered, and immersive. The space is vibrant and dramatic, a perfect prelude to the food itself.
The menu is a refined take on modern Chinese cuisine, with a confident identity and a focus on quality ingredients and balanced flavor. On our first visit, we pre-ordered the Peking duck, and it was truly outstanding — beautifully crisp skin, rich flavor, and expertly carved tableside. On a second visit, we walked in and ordered the crispy duck, which was equally delicious and satisfying.
Every dish, from the soups to the desserts, was exceptionally scrumptious — deeply flavorful, elegantly presented, and thoughtfully portioned. Even the zero-proof cocktails impressed us with their creativity and complexity. Each one was a delicious surprise, proving that alcohol-free doesn’t mean flavor-free.
Solange manages to feel both indulgent and refined — a place where tradition meets innovation in all the right ways. It’s an exciting addition to Kuwait’s ever-growing dining landscape and easily one of the most memorable meals we’ve had...
