To all the one star ratings, I would call these reviewers “fake news”. Everyone is quick to judge without realizing the impact they have on small businesses. I arrived in the afternoon, excited to have the highly acclaimed schnitzel but the store was closed because they had a higher volume of customers the night before than anticipated. We saw the shutters half open in the afternoon and approached Kaz, the owner. He was extremely apologetic and implored us to come back in the evening for dinner, which we did
and I was not disappointed. Kaz is a genuine soul that loves his customers. Having been in Germany for more than 3 decades, I would say he knows a little bit about German cuisine. He welcomes you with open arms and cooks his heart out. The schnitzel was as reviewed by the majority
EXTREMELY DELICIOUS and it took me right back to Berlin. We also had the Currywurst which is off the menu and is cooked with local meat instead of a sausage. For all the backpackers/ visitors trying to be individuals, Kaz is the real deal. With retro music bouncing off the walls from his cellphone, the vibes in this grungy establishment is IMMACULATE. He is definitely open for business and all anyone has to do, is ASK.

We had the schnitzel with fried potatoes, curry, and the Kaiserschmarrn. Alongside, we enjoyed a nicely chilled Namkhong beer and a pleasant chat with the friendly owner, Kaz, after he personally prepared the dishes out front. The schnitzel was quite good, especially considering the location – though not quite at a level that would stand out in Germany or Austria. Unfortunately the fried potatoes were rather bland in our opinion. The curry was tasty but didn’t leave much of an impression compared to others we have had in Southeast Asia. Our clear highlight was the Kaiserschmarrn with homemade jam – absolutely delicious! On the downside, the portions were quite small, especially considering the relatively high prices. -> Conclusion <- If you’re craving schnitzel or Kaiserschmarrn, this place is definitely a must visit! Even if you’re just someone who enjoys exploring different places to eat or appreciate a friendly conversation with the owner it’s still worth giving this one a chance – don’t judge it by appearances. However, if you’re really hungry, you might want to consider another option.

Damn good schnitzel!!!! This place was fantastic. The owner was so kind and incredibly punctual. It's one of the best schnitzels I've ever had, even better than the ones I've tasted in Germany. Something amazing happened, the owner said that our food would take 15 minutes and I thought I would time him, just to see how punctual he could be. Lo and Behold, he was 15 minutes on the dot. Unbelievable! I wouldn't expect anything less from a true German. I couldn't recommend this place enough. The food was fantastic and authentic, the service was fast and excellent, and most of all I loved the atmosphere. It is exactly what I wanted today. Definitely don't listen to negative reviews. I'm sure they are just negative people having a negative day. Only outdoor seating, but who wants to be inside in this tropical wonderland anyway. Five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Schnitzel was bland. Potatoes were too salty. Rice that came with Thai curry was mushy, wet and cold. Worst rice I have ever had in any country (Asian and non Asian). Curry itself was alright, if not a tad salty as well. Each dish was 100,000 Kip, which by Laos standards is pricey and completely not worth it. Had much better meals elsewhere for a lot cheaper. Owner (also the chef) was friendly and nice.

(Edit after the owner’s response) I was trying to be nice since ‘Mr Kaz’ came across as engaging and friendly despite the poor, overpriced food and the misrepresented ambience of the place (looks nothing like the photos, ‘Mr Kaz’ cannot even be bothered to open the building any more for customers to dine. Instead, diners have to sit outside on logs with flies buzzing around constantly.) For a restaurant charging 100,000 kip for one main dish, I would expect at least indoor service (this place is no better than a roadside eatery yet charging exorbitant hotel restaurant prices).

Additionally, the ‘frenchs’ who were dining complained that his food was too salty (yes, we overheard!) so no they did not ‘enjoy it’ as claimed.

Lastly, for those still considering dining at this scam establishment: ‘Mr Kaz’ pressured us to order drinks the minute we sat down despite us turning him down initially. Before we even had time to properly pursue the menu, ‘Mr Kaz’ was pressuring us to ‘hurry up’ (and order) and ‘recommended’ dishes that the ‘frenchs’ (who had ordered a few minutes before us) had ordered, to make it, I quote verbatim ‘easier for him to cook in one batch’. What a delightful owner! I am not one to normally review eateries. However, this was the worst (taste and price) food we had in our entire Laos trip.

To Mr Kaz: Instead of spending time typing out passive aggressive, slightly racist responses, a better use of your time would be to improve the ambience of your ‘restaurant’ as well as your cooking. No need to feel ‘sad’ for me, instead, I’m sorry that you misunderstand what good food and reasonable prices are. By the way, absolute lack of professionalism shown in your response to my review (reflected in the service too, never seen a restaurant owner so pushy and insistent on inserting himself into guests’ conversations). Next time, take the feedback graciously and focus...
