Vīgante, restorāns — Restaurant in Riga

Very cold day in Riga, it was - 17. Date 07.01.2024. Time around 12.30 in the afternoon. Apart from me there were 2 people in cafe, so not very busy. Asked if they offer business lunch, as that's quite common practice with some places in Riga. Received answer ' no'. And the lady litteraly looked me up and down like I was some dirt stuck to the bottom of the shoe. I couldn't have known they don't offer business lunch, as I don't live in Latvia anymore, I just visit here 2 times a year. OK, no business lunch, no problem. I have a look at the menu and choose beetroot soup 4eur, as it's still quite early in the day, and I just wanted something quick to warm me up. Upon learning that I've ordered just a soup, another ugly stare in my direction, no smile, no thank you. As I was waiting for my soup I could hear kitchen staff was having terrible cough. Great, your food gets coughed over. Why not just pay your staff sick pay and maybe a bit more so they're not so miserable and rude to customers, and stay at home if they're sick. Will not return, despite my hotel being just around the corner. The soup itself was OK, but nothing special. Oh they do have QR codes displayed on the tables, so that you can leave staff a tip. For me the best restaurant in whole Riga, would recommend coming here from the old Town too. All the things we tasted very really yummy, stroganoff is awesome, cheese sauce with shrimps julienne also great with the bread, potatoe pancakes amazing (the salmon not needed to it in my opinion, the sour cream yes). Service really attentive and kind, speaks English too. The kitchen closes at 10 pm. Only bad point to say is, that I liked this restaurant so much, that I wanted to eat there on Sunday midday too, it was written, that they are open from 12, however we were there shortly after 12 and they were closed so I didn't have my...

Well, great place semi tavern, semi restaurant, I would gove lot praise to its food and nice service. Really worth of prasie. However the ambience I happened to have there was a little bit strange, loud music,l was the reason which esepcially Russian music was absolutely beyond my taste. Probably that was just a concidence. However, food is really very good, I would recommend the fish and garlic bread. Local craft cider is aerved there and I would strongly recommend it.
