Café du Pont — Restaurant in Vianden

Unfortunately I had to give 1, because Google reviews does not allow a 0 rating. I went today for a nice stroll and thought to have a drink and a snack at Restaurant Du Pont in Vianden. It was such a disappointing and rather emotional experience. I mean I am not someone who give restaurants bad ratings, as sometimes the waiter might just have an off day, but today I had the worst experience ever. I asked the waiter nicely after I took a seat if he could just clean the table, as it was still a mess from the previous people, and he brought me a clothe to clean the table myself. When my snack arrive, he never brought me a fork and knife or a napkin.

When I got up to pay, i just double checked with the waiter if they only took card from €25 and above spend, and his respond was “yes, like I told you half an hour ago”

I thought, ok, I was just double checking and I left it. I asked him about where the closest bank is to draw money. Then I politely told him that I think he really needs to work on his service and how he talks to customers. His responds were, you can tell my manager, who was the uncle of the waiter.

I then walked to the manager and approached him also in a very polite way, trying to explain to him in a subtle way that his nephew needs to perhaps work on his service etc, and while I explained to him what he did wrong, he kept on working the TV remote, not looking at me at all (now remember I am a paying customer). His response to me was while still not looking at me, “ok you can go and tell him”

I said to the manager that I have already and at the same time I also told him that is is good manners and respectful to look at someone when they talk to you, and his response were “listen lady, Holla d is playing in 40min and I don’t have internet, I don’t have time now”.

I thought by myself, wow, he is super rude and this is not how an owner/manager should speak to a paying customer.

I was so shocked, I had to leave. To me it honestly felt a bit like verbal abuse.

I was so disappointed and will NEVER go back and will never ever recommend anyone...

When I entered this restaurant I admired the view. The restaurant and bathroom are very clean and have a nice smell. I was so happy to be in Luxembourg till now. But... Then we ordered our meal (beef and schnitzels with onions). The order did not come, a lot people came and went. We are asking to waiters. They are saying okey I will look. But who is going and not coming back. Finally I said, 'if the meal will be late, please let us know, we should go, cause we have a program. The last one also said okey, I will look immediately. Also she went and didn't come back. So I called her and asked what happened? She said 'the communication missing happened between kitchen and waiters, so they are preparing now...' so I said ' we don't deserve to get this information' we don't have long time in Vianden, we had a program in Luxembourg and plans. We had to skip because of this mistake. At least you can tell us.' we spent 2 hours here, eating is only almost 15-20 minutes. We skipped the ice-cream which already in the menu. When we are paying, she said, the thing She can do more, make free the drinks (2 beers). Also one menu came wrong, but we did not inform them, because we didn't want to wait one more hour. We ordered schnitzel onion, came schnitzel mushroom. Thank you to spend our time and make down our all motivation. It can be exceptional situation but they would solve it at least more...

Friendly service, delicious food, good portions, decent prices, great window views, the waiter speaks many different languages (incl english), very quick and attentive. The cocktails are tasty (I ordered a Hugo). This is my favorite restaurant in Vianden so far. I ordered 2 kids menu one with nuggets and one with steak and I was impressed with the quality of the steak meat and portion and how nicely cooked medium rare/medium well. The chicken nuggets were also good. I also ordered the Baked Trout with almonds that was a good combination specifically if you like almonds and nicely cooked fish (well cooked at right temperature, not overcooked). We also ordered the shrimp with garlic that was also delicious with very tasty white wine buttery garlic sauce also cooked well. Nothing was burnt or overcooked, all done as it should to keep the nice flavors. The rice, side salads and vegetables that were part of the main dish were also good. The coffee expressos were fine. And the french fries that were also part of the main dishes were also fine. I also visit before in the winter and the onion soup with a crust of cheese on top was also very delicious too.
