Well, well, well, that didn’t end up as expected. Looking at the queue outside (and having to sit in the queue ourselves) we were expecting the food to be worth the wait. How wrong were we to think of such thoughts…
The duck rice was disappointing. Having ventured to try out duck places in PJ like D’Yaya and Itek Itik, the duck here does not measure up. It was dry and there was one of the herbal taste that roasted duck meats need to have.
We also tried the roasted chicken rice, and the same theme was apparent - dry. The meat was dry, even drier than the duck. It’s not difficult to be demanding of roasted chicken rice because we all know how it should taste like. This just wasn’t done right.
We also tried the ‘taugeh’ as a side dish. It also wasn’t done well. You need to blanch the been sprouts first, and this just wasn’t blanched at all. Again, it’s not hard to do but they didn’t do it well. It was tasteless. Here’s an example - if anyone has ever been to Kim Kee Nasi Ayam Hallam, then you know what it means to do ‘taugeh’ reasonably well. This wasn’t it.
Lastly was the vibe. How hard is it to stream music without having any drop in signal? Even if it did, please do something about it. The whole time the background music was doing this and no one did anything. Didn’t the proprietors care?
There was a wall of graffiti lamenting how good the duck and the chicken was. It just shows how herd mentality works, start with one positive review and everyone else follows. I don’t know how so many people can think that it’s any good.
As I left the restaurant, this mystery...
Read moreJust randomly stumbled upon this on the map because of the name. I decided to try it out since it was lunchtime and I got the munchies for some chicken rice.
Got the Kahwin/Campur set since wanted to try the chicken and duck and was blown to bits on how good it is. The duck was so flavorful and tender, with crispy golden skin, the chicken was the same although it was a bit on the salty side. However paired with the flavorful rice, chili and soy sauce it was perfect. Every element compliments each other so well. I forgot when was the last time I actually enjoyed having chicken rice.
The drink was a bit meh for me, ordered Tembikai Laici but only tasted the tembikai, did not even get any laici bits in the drink. Luckily I'm already super satisfied with the food.
Will definitely come again if in the area or had an urge for duck rice. The rice was superb and fits my taste buds so well. Perhaps the beverage side can be improved. Overall it was a pleasant experience. 9/10 would...
Read moreAtmosphere - was like a typical Chinese chicken rice shop which was nostalgic. I liked this part of it. But note, I'm not saying fine dine.
Service - I don't know if they were full house yesterday, but it seemed 80% occupancy. A tad bit slow to come to New customers. I dislike that they had a promotion but didn't specify on the promo page that it was for weekdays but the server had to clarify that. Misprints are not customers fault.
For the food - I ordered duck, I would say the chili sauce was correct and spot on, the duck was on the tougher side, I didn't like the vinegar sauce for the duck, it was just ok, not something that I will think of often. The chicken, my kid ordered, I did not like the style, it was coloured reddish type, more of the Malay style of chicken rice. Presentable enough, portion is alright. But the taugeh portion was most decent for a small plate can serve 2-3 ppl so that was well done.
Nothing to rave about, but can get a...
