We decided to try out their weekday lunch buffet and luck was on our side as we found a parking spot less than 100 meters from the restaurant – a rarity in this area. Parking around the restaurant can be a challenge. The buffet starts at 11:30 am and runs till 3:00 pm. We arrived around 11:20 am and were surprised to see a queue forming outside already.
The doors opened promptly at 11:30 am. As we entered, we paid at the cashier counter near the entrance and ordered our drinks. Once payment was done, we were assigned a table. The usual lunch price is RM15.00 per person, drinks included, but they're currently offering a Merdeka promotion at RM10.00 per person, drinks not included.
The buffet spread commenced around 11:45 am, signalled by a horn, and everyone rushed to the buffet station. Plates and cutlery were placed on the side, not at the buffet line. We were disappointed to find some of the plates and bowls greasy, with food remnants on the cutlery, necessitating a wipe down with wet tissues before using them. This raised concerns about the place's hygiene standards.
On a positive note, the variety of food was decent, featuring around 20-25 dishes, including flower crabs and clams (lala). We sampled a bit of everything and found the taste generally acceptable, though some dishes were overly salty or sweet. Considering the price, the quality was understandably not top-notch. Several items, especially the crabs, seemed less than fresh. The Roti Boom was undercooked, retaining a floury taste.
The decor felt a bit excessive and the restaurant could get stuffy when full. A busker singing added a nice touch. As more people lined up outside, the busker suggested we finish our meal promptly to make space for others. However, suddenly the owner announced that those who came in at 11:30 am should leave immediately, implying they could return tomorrow if desired. This left us feeling uncomfortable, almost as if we were being hurried out while still eating. We're slow eaters and wanted to finish without wastage.
If the intention is to manage meal durations, clear signage and initial information upon entry would be helpful. Perhaps offering two lunch timings, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm, could allow diners to gauge their meals better. It's unpleasant to be asked to leave while still eating.
All in all, cleanliness was lacking, and food quality fell below expectations. However, the cost was affordable, with a wide array of choices. Taste-wise, it was decent. Service was lacklustre, and the washroom cleanliness left much to be desired. Furthermore, we remained quite parched for the remainder of the day following our lunch. While today's experience was intriguing, a return visit...
Read moreWhere do I begin. Oh happy new year! It's 2/1/23 and may all of us be happy. Let me simplify what all I'm trying to say: 7 ringgit.
As we entered the restaurant , we were greeted professionally and ushered to our table. But mind you the ticket for the FOOD is 7 ringgit but the drinks NOT INCLUDED. But hey owner need money too.
Naan is hot from the stove check. Not bad for 7 ringgit. Roti bom marvelous. And hot, check. Hooray for 7 ringgit. Going on to the porridge section... It was so so, cold.. And.. Flaccid.. But remember; 7 ringgit. Then, we go down memory lane, past the bread and biscuits. Okay don't expect the Ritz's level pastries here but all a man need is a good bread (even though it's only white bread) and condiments like kaya and pb&j. Of course butter... Who can't say no to butter? Oh toast them twice to get a nice tan on yer white bread lassie! The biscuits... Boh.
Then come the drink stall, and then the rojak buah.. (I... It was 7 ringgit) and laksa... (I don't eat laksa, so no comment..) the spaghetti (chicken sauce (noice) beef sauce.. (.. It was beefy..) the tots!... (tot it was baked to perfection but it was fried and it wasn't done well.. It was done like P-Ramlee mandi kerbau I guess) and the mee goreng.. It was mee goreng. End. Nada.. Nothing to comment.
The nasi lomak... (the cornerstone for a good breakfast spot lies on their drinks, kueh and nasi lomak - me).. It was.. Eh.. Uh. Ah. Oh.. I can test the ginger because I can see 1 whole ginger in the rice, it was fragrant. Some rice was clumpy... Santan taste... Lacking, underwhelming, so not enough, very less, feel like discounted... Oh wait 7 ringgit. Otherwise the sambal have a nice spicy kick to it, I hope they use a better ikan bilis for it though and rendam properly. And where the hell in the god green earth is the TIMUN, KACANG GORENG, IKAN BILIS, TELOQ REBUS/MATA/Goreng for the nasi lomak? Haiya... Emotional damage.
The cucur.. Okla. Lauk lain.. Rendang daging sedap... Masak lama lagi baru lembut or perap lama sikit maybe with baking soda and cuka or papaya skin or rebus semalaman...
Setting- selesa. I have to admit very nice memorable and Instagram worthy. For 7 ringgit it worth your time to eat fatten you up before the slaughter in front of the lord voldemort.. Sorry...
Final verdict.; So, for 7 ringgit the food is DECENT, clean and the employees are very accommodating. The place is nice. The parking is something that I can't comment about for it's something typical. All in all I would come back just to get a cheap morning fix anytime if my belly wanna get that...
Read moreMe and some friends went for lunch at NAAN Corner Restaurant MR BOOM 1983 two Sundays ago. It's a place near where I stay about 7-8 minutes drive from my house. It's a place that's been open for a couple of years now but we've never been there so we decided to give this place a try.
I ordered their Nasi Briyani with chicken. I was in the mood for some curry and rice and this plate really hit the spot. The rice was fragrant and had a nice balance of spices. The spices weren't overpowering but at the same time wasn't under flavored as well. It was just perfect and the chicken curry made it all even more decadent and delicious. The curry flavor was so flavorful and everything you want in a curry - creamy, thick and lush, slightly spicy, and packed full of flavor. It had a hint of sourness that was citrusy that was a very nice note to the curry too. The chicken was tender and also came with some potatoes and a hard-boiled egg which was really good with the curry as well.
My mum ordered a dish called 'Roti Cheese' which is a griddle fried dough that is filled with mozzarella cheese. A fusion dish of Malaysian and Italian that's very unique. It was decent and had lots of cheese and the curry for dipping that comes with it was very delicious as well. We shared this dish with our friends and it is a nice sharing dish to get.
Another dish which she ordered for herself was a 'Beef Murtabak'. It is also a 'roti' but is stuffed with beef curry and it had chickpeas which is quite unique and a first for us eating 'murtabak' that was stuffed with chickpeas. The filling was very generous and gave you a feeling that it's a very luxurious version of a humble 'murtabak'.
For my drink, I ordered 'Teh Ice' which is iced milk tea. On the menu it showed choices of small or large but the waiter didn't ask us when ordering and we also didn't bother mentioning what size we wanted. It came in a jug and I thought it was good value for money but it turns out it was a large size and that's what they charged us. So if you're ordering the drinks, remember to specify your preference and what you want or by default I guess they'll be serving you your drink in a jug.
Overall it was a nice place and the environment together with the food is a worthwhile place to visit. I particularly recommend the Nasi Briyani simply because it was the one I enjoyed the most and would go back...
