Sunday Breakfast at Sham’s Banana Leaf Restaurant
Arrived at Sham’s Banana Leaf Restaurant around 9 am on Sunday, 20 July 2025, with two friends for breakfast.
The place was almost full—lots of people, both inside and outside, already enjoying their meals. The crowd was a nice mix of families, older folks, and groups of friends catching up. Clearly, it’s a popular weekend spot in Taman Melawati.
We ordered a variety of dishes: • Poori Set with two hot, puffy pooris, potato masala, and dhal curry. • Vadai Set with crispy vadai, coconut chutney, red chutney, and sambar. • Roti Canai with Curry—classic, flaky, and served with plenty of curry and veggies. • Nasi Lemak Bungkus—simple but satisfying, with sambal, egg, and anchovies, all wrapped in banana leaf. • For drinks, we tried the fresh cow milk with jelly and teh tarik—both hit the spot.
The food came out on stainless steel trays, neat and practical, making it easy to share and dip. Service was fast and the staff were genuinely friendly, checking in and making sure everything was okay, even though it was busy.
The ambience felt casual and lively. Tables were clean, the air was cool with plenty of fans, and the space was well-lit. There’s also a board with a huge menu on the wall, so you can easily see all the options. Parking is right in front, which is super convenient but can get a bit tight during peak times.
Overall, Sham’s is a solid spot for Malaysian Indian breakfast—halal, family-friendly, and easy-going. The generous portions and affordable prices make it worth a visit. I’d definitely come back for lunch to try their banana leaf rice, which seems to be a favourite among regulars.
In short: Great place for breakfast or lunch, especially if you’re with family or friends and want a hearty meal in a comfortable,...
Read moreFIRST AND FOREMOST, the prices are ridiculous ,you’re not even allowed to refill papadom with your banana leaf set. We ordered three pieces of fried chicken and what showed up was basically a whole oversized chicken fried which didnt even looked pleasent to eat . It was so overcooked we could barely find any actual meat, and it cost us RM30 just for that alone! Upon asking the owner she gave irrelevant reasons which clearly makes no sense. I had banana leaf at malls as well that is much cheaper but shit good and u can even REFILL PAPADOM FOR FREE.
If the food was good, I wouldn't have minded paying , but this was just bad. Definitely did not enjoy the food, and I do not recommend this place to anyone. Save your money . And please leave honest...
Read moreFirst time coming to this restaurant after living in this neighborhood for the past 12 years. Heard good reviews about them. But today was my first ever unbecoming experience at a banana leaf rice restaurant. Service was terrible. Sat for more than 5 minutes without any servers coming to ask me for orders. Walk past through me as if I’m an invisible customer. Food was so-so, nothing to shout about. Small pieces chicken are already fried, not freshly fried. Upon paying, I have to stand there waiting for the owner to attend to me, as she is busy entertaining and talking to her relatives that come and visit. Hopefully this is the first and the last time I’d come here. Would rather drive up to PJ for a better banana leaf...
