Lumière Coffee & Pastry — Restaurant in Borneo

2017.12.24  It is a coincidence to discover this new cafe during my visit to the Riverson on Sunday afternoon.

The creativity of the logo gained my attention for the first glance. The size coffee shop is not that big as I expect and roughly one third of the spaces is covered generally by the big coffee bean processing machine, causing limited seats inside, roughly 3 - 4 small table inside.

Looking at the menu, it is understandable to know that this new cafe is more focus on coffee drinks. The young serving crew is so nice to let me know that they also selling lunch box set from Monday and Friday and everyday will has a different menu to suite the customer taste. The young men is such a friendly person but a little bit quiet, just you only need to initiate a conversation to discover more about the story of this special cafe.

On the basis, the coffee shop is operating on 9a.m to 6.00p.m from Sunday to Friday. Cortado is my first choice which cost me RM 9.00. Don't be surprised as Cortado is more suitable for a immediate consumption and hence you will enjoy it by the constraint of a smaller and special glass cup size.

Genially, a Cortado is a Spanish-origin general term for a beverage consisting of either coffee or espresso mixed with a roughly equal amount of warm milk to reduce the acidity.

For the taste, I shall say that the coffee is more richer and at no doubt the velvety texture integration is just perfect. It worth to give it a try to spend my spare times there.

I personally think that Cortado may symbolic of the cafe. The cafe has the potential to go further and become more relevant. Yet, there are lots of rooms for improvements as well as some changes from time to time to suit the marketing need.

Latest visit: Visited when they have fully setup their kitchen. Enjoyed the Bolognese pasta, truffle pasta and duck pasta.

Also enjoyed their deserts such as chocolate hazelnut mousse cake and croissants.

Had their drip coffee V60, it was amazingly fragrant. Also had latte, earl grey tea and Ceylon tea. As usual, the best in Sabah.

Definitely must come by to try their lunch out! Great lunch, great coffee, great tea and great ambience!

The best coffee i have ever had! The owner has put in a lot of care and love in sourcing his beans and roasting them inhouse to perfection.

I 100% recommend you to specially come to Wisma Manika to try this cafe out! Please know that you will need to make a parking in the basement of Wisma Manika, and take the lift or stairs to ground floor, to reach Lumiere.

They serve pastries and western food as well.

You can also buy coffee grinds, capsules and bag drips to go. They also sell other accessories like mugs, milk frother metal cups and a gift box set. Definitely recommend getting the 'Coffee is Better With 2' gift box, to gift premium coffee goods to your loved ones.

Just as one of the reviews mentioned there is a very rude lady at the front counter. Our experience here was hilarious. We can understand she looked displeased when taking order because the cafe was busy. She told us to wait 30-40mins for the food to be served, we agreed and had their pastries first while waiting. But after 50mins we asked them to check our order, the first server replied us the kitchen missed our order so we asked to cancel because we’re leaving. Then here comes the rude lady approaching us refused to cancel telling they started to make our food, if we’re leaving then can take the tapao. The whole conversation was forceful without any apologies so we refused her offer then she literally glared at us angrily and stormed off throwing our bill off at the counter and slapping the desk. Come on! Dont be absurd. We spend here to enjoy the food and environment. Who wait for an hour for a tapao and we absolutely don’t deserved to be treated this way when it’s not even our fault.
