We had a mixed experience at this restaurant, and unfortunately, it didnāt meet our expectations.
To start, we were charged RM3 for rice we canceled, which was disappointing and felt unfair. The pickled Bambangan was overly bitterāso much so that even as locals, we couldnāt enjoy it. My mom even commented, "Amu ouyuhan papadagang" (better not to be served). The Taadak (pumpkin) was acceptable, but it didnāt stand out. The Tuhau had its flavor overwhelmed by vinegar, leaving it unbalanced. As for the Tunduk Tapayas (papaya leaf), it was bland and lacked the depth of flavor we were hoping for.
Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal was the Ikan Basungātender, well-cooked, and not chewy. However, the portions didnāt justify the RM20 price tag, leaving us disappointed overall.
Another issue was the Sup Kosong, which was initially extremely oily. Thankfully, the staff replaced it with a plain version upon requestānasib baik (luckily).
The drinks were another letdown. The mango drink was made from cordial, far too sweet, and absolutely not worth RM10 per cup. We strongly recommend they improve the quality of their beverages.
On the positive side, the staff was friendly and helpful. And they understood Dusun too, which is nice since they serve local food.
Overall, we wouldnāt recommend this restaurant, especially if youāre looking for authentic traditional food or introducing local cuisine to non-local friends. Thereās significant room for improvement in portion sizes, food preparation, and pricing. But I am happy we have option of local cuisine nowadays...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been here several times and was very fond of this place (before they moved). However, my recent visit here turned out to be not at all as expected. In fact, I dare say it was a disaster. Something was waay off with the food. Everything was too salty including the soup. The tuhau tasted of pure vinegar. They forgot about our meatball order and when it came, the meatballs were burnt black and the sauce was diluted it was almost transparent. The meal for all 3 of us was so disappointing and embarrassing really when i brought my family all the way from peninsula to try local food. The staff were not at all attentive. One was busy playing with her phone that we had to call "miss miss miss" many many times and eventually gave up, got up and walked to her. Nothing about our visit was a positive one. I'll reconsider if i want to come here again or I'll just head to mynative as an...
Ā Ā Ā Read morewell i dint managed to dine in, but i do grab food instead, food was ok, its just the local vege (pucuk ubi) its very watery, it should not be that way, it should be dry.
And i think the fried chicken wings it would be nice, its just salt n pepper instead of breadcrumb, it will be much more better.
I think the fish (ikan basung) too should not have flour, taste will be much more better, since sabah famous with this fish, i know everyone can fried this fish, and i think the cafe wanted to have their own identity, way of cooking style to makes you different. Its just the ethnic food should be preserve how it is.
Other then that, should be ok, havent experience the service yet, packaging can be more better in the near future, hopefully owner can look into...
