Chanced upon Nigocha Matcha because another matcha cafe we wanted to go was closed. I guessed that was really lucky for us because the matcha here, as well as some of the desserts, were really very good. So good till we came here two days in a row.
Was recommended the Earl Grey Matcha Latte as well as the Jasmine Matcha Latte (both RM17). You might think, "oh recommending the most expensive drink". One of the more pricey drink options but definitely 2 very good drink options. Personally I prefer the Earl Grey Matcha. The scent of Earl Grey blending in with each sip of rich, umami matcha. As compared to the Jasmine option that was slightly muted.
For the 1st day we had Matcha Mont Blanc. The matcha chestnut, good blend of savoury and earthy nuttiness. The only ick would be the meringue. It is a very delicious meringue, just that probably because it was quite a big piece of meringue and the powdery nature of it caused a slight choke. Gold leaf for decoration, but is definitely a must try.
We also had the hojicha souffle pancakes. Looks-wise.. Hojicha sauce is definitely NOT the ideal colour. Taste-wise? Perfect. The extremely earthy hojicha with the sweet savoury sea salt cream foam on top of the souffle pancakes, such a good pairing together for the pancakes. The pancakes we had that day was a little stiff, not as fluffy as we expected.
For the second visit, we tried their ice cream! We tasted the level 5 matcha, but it was too "green" for our liking so we went with sea-salt matcha ice cream (same for the mochi version as well). Highly recommend this sea-salt matcha ice cream, flavor bomb.
Cafe on the second floor means you actually wont see the cars parked outside, which is good. The interior of the cafe gives off a very zen vibe, suitable for a catch up.
Would definitely go again if I am back in...

I had a matcha latte which was umami, had a strong matcha flavour as well as a nutty aroma which they informed to us beforehand when ordering. It had satisfying froth at the top as well as a nice blend of milk to matcha. I prefer my matcha lattes with a stronger taste of the matcha compared to the milk, so this was right up my alley. Additionally I also took a Level 2 matcha ice cream which they allowed us to taste before deciding which level to order. They have 5 levels of matcha ice creams, with an option to have it in a cone (with additional charge) or a cup. You could also add on another scoop (+RM5) or mochi (+RM3). It was a very nice experience.
Other items on the menu were matcha cakes, matcha cream puffs, a variety of soufflé pancakes, and Mont Blanc.
Service-wise, the lady at the counter was very friendly and gave recommendations on sugar level and also explained about their products tastes. Their prices are similar to KL cafe prices, which can be a bit on the higher end, but the quality of their products are quite commendable.
The place is air-conditioned, clean, with a Japanese-inspired decor. There are a good number of tables and the food and drinks were served quite promptly.
The parking here is ample and easy to find as well which is especially appreciated in the Kota Kinabalu area. I would recommend coming if you wish to sample a variety of matcha...
Read morePossibly the best matcha in town for the time being. While she is a baker of her own pastry, she owns the business too. You can see she runs between the front desk and the kitchen all the time, making sure foods are ready for the customers. That being said, matcha and all other variety and green tea are absolute marvelous, undeniable. Mt personal dig is the Level 3 matcha ice cream, macaroons, matcha lemon biscuit and the matcha cream choux. I would come back here again and again if I am a matcha enthusiast. Thought for the head up, it says opening at 10.30am in the morning but it will be full house around 11.00am morning. Some pastry requires 15min prep time as mentioned on the menu flash card and due to the overwhelming crowd etc, the wait could go up to 45mins. So be ready for that before you got mad with the long wait. If you go around 1-2pm, most of the time many of the desserts already sold out. A piece of advice, be the first customer, or come back another day. Sometimes, you could see the other table got served first even though you are the customer before them, that is either they have messed up the order queue, or maybe that's how they handle the orders, instead of 1 table at at a time. There is room of improvement for the customer service for sure, pastry and environment overall...
