This is a Mexican diner with some fusion cuisine in its menu. Previously it was at another lot at Elit Heights. Now it is relocated next to Eastern Wishes Restaurant within Elit Heights.
Adobo meat, pork and chicken is a Filipino national dish adopted by the Spanish colonialists and in turn culturally crossed into Mexican food. If you're really exploring Mexican cuisine go for tacos, nachos, fajitas, quesadillas and wraps(burrito). For Nachos give the Chipotle Chicken and Barbacoa Beef nachos a try. It is not too heavy in terms of sauce and cheese, ideal as an appetiser or a light meal.
Now if you are into tacos, opt for CRISPY tacos to get a good crunchy texture. My preferred tacos is Chipotle Chicken tacos. Tacos come with the option of 2 or 3 piece servings. Amount depends on your appetite! If you can take a bit of spice, go for the Enchiladas. I don't like rice so I opted for the Enchiladas only serving. There is another option to have the same Enchiladas with rice. Enchiladas come loaded with tender chicken wrapped in tortillas topped with cheese and spicy gravy. Tastes like chilli powder and curry! For value for money and a balanced serving of protein, carbohydrates and fibre, opt for chicken, beef or pork fajitas. I tried chicken and beef(tenderloin) fajitas. You are given the choice of spicy or mild rice. I prefer mild. Regular size serving comes with a sizzling plate of your choice of meat, 3 pieces of tortillas, small bowl of rice, a boat shaped plate containing lettuce, corn, chopped tomatoes, green pickled chillies and grated cheese. Fajitas are not too heavy or too light.
They have revamped their menu and I just love the Fire Grilled Beef Ribeye Steak with vegetables & mashed potatoes. Go for Medium Well Doneness as recommended. Top in taste and value for money !! This is the best and most affordable premium steak on the South West district of Penang.
After the Fire Grilled Ribeye another must try dish is the Classic Handmade Meat Balls. Tender, tasty, juicy complemented by a bed of mashed potatoes and broccoli.
Another impressive must try dish is the Pork Ribs. As advertised they are fall off the bone tender! Tasty, well balanced flavours, complemented by mashed potatoes and broccoli.
If you love beef burgers order a lovely Black Panther burger. Instead of fries I opted for a change from fries to mashed potato. The beef patty is tender and flavourful with egg, melted cheese, salad and onions stacked on top of the beef patty.
Grilled Chipotle Chicken is served tender with a mild hot sauce that does not overpower the tongue and that makes you able to enjoy the meat.
My recommended choices for healthier sugar free choices, order their fruit juices such as the pineapple juice blend. I loved it enough to order a second cup as a takeaway. If you fancy healthy choice with a bit of indulgence, order the chocolate avocado. The chocolate just adds some flavour to the combination and isn't sweet at all. I liked it enough to order a second cup as takeaway.
I am impressed by Berry Bliss. A blend of mixed berries, this drink is packed with natural sweetness and fibre. Loved it enough to order it multiple times.
For mango lovers, order the Rico Mango juice. It is filled with real mango fruit fibre and real juice. Fresh juices with no added sugar are available such as orange, apple, carrot or a mix of carrot + apple,...
Read moreAmex has finally been renovated, and while it’s more spacious and bright, I still kind of prefer the old version of its decor. The newly renovated Amex is bright and has more tables to accommodate customers, but it doesn’t have that much Mexican feel to it anymore. No more tequila bottles are hanging on the ceiling, and the whole interior design makes it feel more like a Vietnamese restaurant. Don’t get me wrong, the quality of the food hasn’t dropped. I still enjoyed my meal here very much.
I came here with some friends, so we ordered the family value set meal and two burritos. The Lite nachos were first, and it was quite appetizing. There was nothing special about it, just crispy corn chips with salsa, minced chicken, and some nacho cheese.
The burritos were the highlight of our meal. It was so delicately wrapped in a sheet of red foil paper like a fluffy pillow, warm and soft. The staff was even so nice to help us cut it into slices when we requested it. The insides of the tortilla were bursting with filling. The chipotle chicken was tender and had the right amount of spice, but the pulled pork carnitas were even better. Vegetables and salsa were fresh, and the sour cream plus the guacamole were a great addition to it.
Quesadillas were all right. Not a lot of filings in it, but the sauce made up for it. The fajitas were served with a generous amount of fragrant Mexican lime-infused rice and salsa. It was tasty and very fun to eat! Drinks were refreshing.
The fall-off-the-bone pork ribs were generous in portions and really delicious. The meat was soft and tender, coated in a huge layer of buttery mashed potatoes and thick American gravy. For RM29.90, this was definitely worth it!
I had a fantastic time dining here at Amex. Authentic Mexican food and great service, you should definitely visit...
Read moreHaving spent over a decade living in the Lone Star state, I've cultivated a profound yearning for the flavors of Texas comfort food. Serendipitously, we stumbled upon a Tex-Mex restaurant in Bayan Lepas. While I initially harbored doubts about encountering the same high-quality Tex-Mex cuisine I'd grown accustomed to in Texas, my skepticism, unfortunately, turned out to be well-founded.
The chef seemed to skimp on essential ingredients like good cheese and sour cream, which are integral to Tex-Mex cuisine. A mere few drops of them on a fried corn tortilla shell just didn't do justice to the flavors and kicks I was longing for.
Moreover, if a restaurant decides to include a service charge on the table, they should consider hiring professional waitstaff who do more than simply hand you a menu and point you to order through a QR code. Finally, the staff should show more enthusiasm for their work rather than giving the impression that they would rather be somewhere else.
In summary, the dining experience was disappointing, and I would rate it a D- for all the dishes we tried. However, it's essential to remember that we're not in Texas, so a 2-star rating seems...
