This is an honest review from a very dissatisfied family of customers, including grandparents, a disappointed customer, and his 12-year-old son.
First, the grandparents ordered the Herbal Chicken Bee Hoon Soup. Unfortunately, the soup tasted exactly like Bak Kut Teh. While we understand that Bak Kut Teh is herbal, we were not expecting this flavor in a chicken herbal soup. It would be better if Kopi Kia advertised it as “Bak Kut Teh Bee Hoon Soup” to avoid misleading customers. If it had been labeled this way, we would not have ordered it in the first place.
Second, the Char Koay Teow portion was far too small for the price of RM11. For this price, the portion should be at least 50% larger. To make matters worse, the taste was among the most below-standard versions we’ve ever had in Penang.
Finally, here’s a review from my 12-year-old son regarding the roasted chicken rice and teh tarik: "If I had a photo, I would show you the disgrace of a chicken rice this is. Firstly, there were many little bones in the chicken, so I kept having to pull it out. Very inconvenient. Secondly, the chicken soup was incredibly bland. Finally, the chilli sauce simply tasted horrible. To add insult to injury, I ordered a hot teh tarik. The instant powder ones taste better than that bland...
Read moreThis is a chain restaurant with several locations on Penang Island, offering a variety of local delights like Char Koay Teow, Wan Tan Mee, White Coffee, and more. It’s an excellent spot to bring foreign friends for a taste of local cuisine before introducing them to the authentic street food that often requires an hour-long wait in line.
The restaurant is air-conditioned, providing a comfortable dining environment, but it tends to get very crowded during weekday lunch hours. To avoid a long wait, try to arrive before 11:30 AM—otherwise, you might need to wait at least 20 minutes for a table.
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Char Koay Teow. While it’s not quite on the level of a seasoned hawker with decades of experience, it’s still very enjoyable. The Wan Tan Mee is also worth a try.
Overall, this is a convenient and comfortable option for local flavors, especially when time...
Read moreThere were few tables when I walked into and immediately greeted by the crew members. After ordering using QR system, the food and drinks were served within 10 minutes time. The char koay teow has generous amount noodles, bean sprouts and prawns, however, the wok hei is somehow lesser than the outside hawker stalls. The shredded chicken hot fun is on the same level with other famous stalls or restaurants and I would recommend those who come for the first time to give a try. The prices are on the higher side as it is a restaurant with air conditioned which provides comfortable and cozy...
