I recently had lunch at Foong Yean Restaurant, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The food was quite good—not overly fancy, but tasty and well-prepared. Every dish we ordered came out hot and fresh, and the flavors were consistent with what you’d expect from a well-established local Chinese restaurant.

What really impressed me was the portion size. The servings were generous, perfect for sharing among a group. Even with a few dishes, we felt completely full and satisfied. This makes it a great place for family meals or casual gatherings with friends. Despite the large portions, the prices were surprisingly affordable. It's not easy to find places that offer both quality and value these days, but Foong Yean seems to strike that balance well.

The atmosphere is simple and unpretentious. Service was decent—not overly attentive but efficient enough to keep things moving. It’s not a place for fine dining, but if you’re looking for a solid, budget-friendly meal with no-frills, this is definitely a good choice. I would recommend it to anyone looking for affordable, satisfying Chinese food in a comfortable setting. Will definitely return for...

We made reservations and when we reach there we were told there is the mother's day package 10pack for 650.00 which is worst I had. Totally not worth it. Like we were force to take it and every set package is about the same dish. I wasn't informed when I call to make the reservation, they should have said it a mother's day package and it wasn't even mother's day. When we were there, they said "if don't want nevermind" they even know it's a rip off so ya we got into the trap. I mean what do you do if you already invite your family and friends there, are you going to change place last minute? So we took the bullet and hope it's good right? Well turn out 2 out of the 6 dishes are only ok. We had frozen imported fish orange roughly, which smells. I mean why don't they just have local fish which is fresh one right? I do know why because they wanted to make as much money as possible so it's understandable but in customer point of view it's a ripe off. I can pay for good quality costly meal but not this. Truly disappointing. The worst. Tottaly not worth it. For half the price I can have much...

Has been ordering their food delivery since covid time and was never disappointed. Been their loyal customer for the past 2 years too until an incident this year which I'm not too happy that makes me stopped going to them.

Book a table at 11.30am on May. Went there to have lunch with my parents and they show me their mothers day set (some sort like CNY set) which cost few hundreds above. I told them it's not mothers day today and they said for the month of May they only serve mothers day set. I was very unhappy but doesn't want to spoilt the day for my parents. Spend rm580+ for our supposedly normal weekday lunch outing.

Food was luxurious with sea cucumbers, huge prawns and abalones which worth the price but what makes me angry is another lady with her son came in and they're allowed to order ala carte, 1 meat, 1 vege and white rice. Wrong move to chop the head of your loyal customer like this. Despite the great culinary, I don't like the way I'm...

I think the reason why regular customers keep coming back to Foong Yean has got nothing to do with the dining atmosphere- though fully air-conditioned, the ventilation seems to be weak inside; they come back for the consistently delicious food, with reasonable prices! The decade-old Cantonese Restaurant has quite a variety of dishes to offer- from the classic Cantonese stir fry to local-Malaysian cuisine. Foong Yean has always been the de-facto Chinese restaurant to visit in Bayan Baru area. We tried the fried 4 types of vegetables with sambal , crab meat taufu, curry fish ! Most of the patrons will return for its taste ! Address: 34, Jalan Tengah, Taman Tunas, 11900, Bayan Lepas, Penang. Business Hours: 11 am to 3 pm, 6 pm to 10 pm. Closed on Wednesdays. Most of the dishes were disappointing. Everything seemed to be precooked and simply reheated (The reason all dishes are served immediately). The fish was not fresh, and the Teochew-style steamed fish we ordered had an unusual taste that didn’t match our expectations. The tofu and its sauce were both unappealing — the tofu wasn’t soft or smooth, and the broth had a fishy smell, possibly due to the crab meat. The claypot vegetables were passable, but certainly not something I’d consider a standout dish. On the positive side, the restaurant offers reasonable prices, fair service, and a comfortable, air-conditioned environment. However, lower your expectations when it comes to the food quality.
