Wine & Dine in Penang
After spending hours in town centre upon arriving in Penang Island, we finally checked into our hotel. Not wanting to dine-in the hotel itself, I searched my trusted list and found The Wine Shop which was 4km down the road where I stayed for the next few days.
It was a long day and a glass or two of wine wouldn't hurt, in fact it would lift out spirits. I pitched the idea and she was game - we had so much local food earlier. We drove there without any and were lucky to be able to enjoy our dinner.
Both walls on the side were lined up with wines with more wines upstairs. Soft musics were played and the sight of people gathering over wines & foods lit up the atmosphere with their chatters and laughters.
◾pumpkin soup - a hot soup to warm up the tummy before other dishes were served. ◾gammon pork chop - a reasonably thick slab of nicely charred pork chop on a bed of fries, topped with a charred pineapple and served with a side of salad + sauce. ◾sanchoku wagyu burger - my son was the only person that love eating beef in the family and he wanted this. Thick, moist and juicy beef wagyu patty smothered with melted cheese in between 2 soft and fluffy bun. The veggies were separated per requested. ◾Maggi goreng with roasted pork belly - this Asian style plate appealed to the girls more than Western food. Oh well, whatever it takes to make them eat. ◾Smoked duck breast & sausage platter - perfect accompaniment to our value-for-money Hawk Crest Cabernet Sauvignon for the night.
Overall, it's a great place to hangout with friends and families, as well as to have delicious Western food plus great selection of red & white wines from all over the world.
However one thing I agree with some of the reviews that the service could be improved further. Service team was quite slow, and could be...
Read moreAs a visitor from London, I chose The Wine Shop to celebrate my birthday with my son and it turned out to be the perfect decision. From the moment we arrived, the experience was elevated by the exceptional service of our waiter, Naveed. Naveed's attention to detail was truly outstanding. He ensured our glasses were never empty, effortlessly topping them up with a warm smile and perfect timing. When it came time to enjoy our chosen bottle of Prosecco, he opened it with such care and ceremony that it added a special touch to our celebration the pop was just right, setting the tone for the evening. What stood out most was Naveed's genuine attentiveness. He anticipated our needs without ever being intrusive, and his thoughtful service made the evening feel truly personal and memorable. It’s rare to encounter that level of care and professionalism. Thanks to Naveed and the overall welcoming atmosphere, our night was everything we hoped it would be. I will definitely be returning and recommending The Wine Shop to friends and family looking for a special dining experience. A burger with a...
Read moreA great place to have fantastic Western Food and a wide range of red and white wines from various France, Spain, Australia, German, Chile and many other countries. They are have western food choices from steak to fish & chips to pastas. We ordered their Aglio Olio, Korean Noodles with Caramelized Roasted Pork (Siow Bak), Fish & Chips serve with salad, onion rings and fries and BBQ Chicken with wedges. The food we like best was the BBQ Chicken with wedges and Aglio Olio. The Aglio Olio was purely simple but delicious and tasty. For the BBQ Chicken with wedges was the chicken meat BBQ to perfection which was so flavourful, tasty, tenderized meat and spiciness (delicious & fragrant spices used). The upstairs ambience here was nice with gentle music and soft lightings, A very good place to dine and toast with family, friends...
