Had a really satisfying dinner at Yean Yean Restaurant in Tanjung Bungah, Penang. I went around 6pm and it was already packed , definitely a local favourite. The crowd can be a bit overwhelming and it gets noisy, but you can still hold a conversation just fine.
Despite how busy it was, the food was prepared fresh and served hot within 10 minutes , fast and efficient! I ordered the fried rice, mixed vegetables with tauhu, and onion omelette. Portions were generous and everything was delicious.
The tauhu dish was my favourite . It was soft, flavourful, and paired perfectly with the veggies. The fried rice had a nice wok hei, and the omelette was fluffy with slightly crispy edges.
The total cost was RM50, which felt very reasonable for the portion and quality. The place has a simple, open-air setup , great for casual meet ups .
Highly recommend if you're in Penang and looking for tasty, home-style Chinese food. Definitely planning to come back for their seafood...
Read moreA little away from the hustle and bustle of Georgetown sits this neighbourhood eatery which has been there for a while. It's popular with locals and isn't too well known with visitors.
While parking is limited to illegally placing your car by the side of the street, you'd probably find quite a few others who have also done so.
The restaurant is very open and airy, with no entrance door, and the aroma of the food hits you immediately as you approach it. My friends and I ordered a pork trotter stew, deep fried prawn cakes, belachan chicken and a vegetable.
I must say that all the dishes were served quickly and arrived piping hot, straight off the wok. All were perfectly seasoned and invoked a sense of nostalgia of home cooked food. Prices were also very, very reasonable and I'll be back to try the other favourites soon, including their Guinness pork ribs and fish dishes...
Read moreHonest review, despite the good ratings given towards this ju char restaurant, the food I ordered has alot of room for improvement and here is why:-
poorly prepares fried rice. Doesn't need the fried onions on top and the rice wasn't even hot as it should be. Never the less the taste is okay
Most of the dishes here except the sting ray curry doesn't taste like it's prepared fresh. Just taste like economy rice prepared dishes
3)ju char dishes are about freshness, speed, taste and wok hei that I hope yean Yean can improve in the near future
The restaurant menu dishes are not cheap as well pricing 4 dishes at rm 100 which shouldn't have a problem serving excellent dishes if priced this...
