Place was packed at the time i was there due to public holiday, many customers going to or from Desaru. The restaurant is halal, with the usual kopitiam menu. Nasi goreng daging was excellent, i could taste the char and smoky aroma from wok style cooking. The mee kari was very creamy, tasted good but nothing of the extraordinary. Kacang pool also tasted great, but not on par with the taste of JB Haji Kacang Pool. Ordered both kopi o (black) and kopi susu (milk), both met kopitiam excellent standards. Otak2 popiah was also served hot, very crunchy and the otak2 filling was cooked properly. The otak2 was served in bit sized pieces. The butter kaya toast was a bit of a disappointment (my opinion). The bread were a bit too dense and not crunchy enough. The filling tasted great but not enough to the bread's proportion. I was expecting the bread would be out of this world but it was sub par. In conlusion, the restaurant served many excellent tasting dishes and going here is worthwhile. I would suggest visiting the restaurant not on public holiday as to avoid...
Read moreKedai Kopi Otai was such a golden find for me. It is a charming family-run kopitiam located in Desaru Utama, offering a nostalgic old-school ambiance with antique decorations that take you back in time. Their menu features local breakfast favorites like Roti Bakar, Laksa Nyonya, Mee Bandung, and Nasi Lemak, which are generally flavorful and satisfying. The mee goreng with sweet kecap was the highlight for me.
The shop is run by passionate young entrepreneurs who have created a welcoming space for the community. Hence, the patrons was also young locals. Prices are slightly on the higher side and the portion size smaller but this is all made up by the taste and variety.
Overall, Kedai Kopi Otai is a good spot to enjoy traditional Malaysian kopitiam food with a family-friendly vibe. Definitely visit when you’re in the area and craving classic...
Read moreA must place to visit if you're looking for scrumptious local foods. I personally tried the Nasi Goreng Daging & Kacang Pool.
The Nasi Goreng Daging is full of meat slices, it tasted very nice, reminiscing the tasty home-cooked fried rice made by my grandmother when I was small.
The Kacang Pool has the original taste of Johor Kacang Pool. It is served with toasted bread that is crispy outside but soft inside. I was also informed that the bread is baked fresh daily in the "bread shop" in the restaurant.
I also ordered the awesome Kopi Susu to complete my meals.. A very good "kopi kampung"!
Definitely I'll suggest this restaurant to all my family & friends.
Not to forget, they are also selling their own cooking paste brand SURI such as Ibu Sambal, Laksa Nyoya, Asam Pedas, Ungkep, etc.. You can get these as...
