The Mesh Restaurant, Bar & Lounge — Restaurant in Johor

I visited this restaurant last night for their “Father's Day Buffet Dinner” during my stay, and unfortunately, the overall experience left much to be desired. While the price was reasonable for a renowned hotel, the quality of the food was quite disappointing. However, it is worth mentioning that the service staff were very friendly and attentive throughout the evening.

The meat dishes, in general, were dry and lacked flavour. However, I must commend the mutton satay, as it was the highlight of the evening despite being a bit chewy. The cream of mushroom soup, on the other hand, was disappointingly watery, lacking the creamy texture and rich taste one would expect.

The laksa sauce failed to capture the essence of laksa, as it lacked spiciness and the distinct flavours associated with the dish (such as the dried prawn). Similarly, the cream pasta was bland, and the tomato sauce tasted as if it was simply mashed tomatoes with no additional seasoning.

Although the black pepper prawns were quite tasty, I encountered some that were mushy in texture. The butter crab suffered from a soft shell, making it difficult to extract the meat without it getting crushed. Additionally, the crab meat itself was disappointingly mushy.

The kam heong beehoon resembled dry mee siam, but it managed to salvage the experience with its flavourful taste. As for the cold seafood selection, particularly the prawns, they were fresh and delicious, making them one of the highlights of the buffet.

Moving on to desserts, the honeydew dessert consisted of coconut milk, ice, and pieces of honeydew. However, the honeydew flavour was barely detectable, but the ice cream provided a pleasant surprise. The variety of ice cream flavors, including vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and butterscotch, was satisfying. On a negative note, the strawberry and mango pudding lacked flavour and failed to impress. In fact, I found that the store-bought puddings from supermarkets tasted significantly better than the ones offered at this restaurant.

In the midst of the dinner, our experience was further interrupted by a high-pitched screeching fire alarm (a ringing alarm would’ve been more bearable for me), which went on for about 5-10 minutes. This unexpected disturbance detracted from the overall dining ambiance and disrupted our meal.

A major issue throughout our dining experience was the constant presence of flies. We had to spend a considerable amount of time and effort shooing away flies from our food, resulting in a significant waste of food. Unfortunately, we also noticed flies near the buffet line, which was concerning.

Despite the disappointing food experience, it is worth noting that the service staff were very friendly and attentive. They made an effort to ensure that our tables were cleared in a timely manner and provided good customer service throughout the evening.

Considering the reasonable price, it is disappointing that a renowned hotel like Marriott could deliver such subpar culinary experiences. I hope that they take note of these shortcomings and work towards improving the quality and overall dining experience in the future, while maintaining their friendly and attentive...

Stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton Desaru for our short getaway and our rooms were inclusive of breakfast. Plenty of staff on duty but all were working aimlessly either not briefed, new, or head of department not trained. Took 1 table ages before being cleared. Clean plates were wheeled around using trolleys in the restaurant “ala-casino style”. Managers in blue shirts were not orchestrating the team instead they were the ones doing the job 😂. Highest paid staff! One particular staff which I would like to highlight who has the initiative which the rest didn’t even bother is, Firdaus. Throughout our stay he would diligently bring out tea lights to our table as there were so many flies. Kudos to him! The rest should learn from him including the management! Food spread were abundance which is really good! From roti canai, Nasi lemak, egg station, lontong, variety of cereal, yoghurt, muesli, and so on! Fantastic! None practice clean as you go, especially at the ‘live’ station, think it’s about time the staff must go for a refresher. The restaurant tables and chairs need a thorough wipe down once the guests leave. I encountered sticky and greasy underarm on the chair. Lastly, with the school holidays looming having the cashier point as the welcoming point is just a disaster. Bottleneck is not something a guest would like to see during breakfast. We’ve been staying here for 5 days and 5 nights with my little brother and son.From the start, when we arrived, the staff was so accommodating. When I forgot my paper bag with full of my son’s stuff like milk bottles, the staff and security assisted me and they checked the CCTV.Its my fault actually since I am so tired and want to rest after a long travel🙈😭. I was amazed by their effort until we found the stuff. Thank you so much, guys.From front desk his also a Filipino staff who work in this hotel. Shout out the housekeeping department ,they always clean our room,and they are all nice and honey person.Ohh I love them!! And by the way, the food in the restaurant was amazing. The staff were all nice, from the bread station to the egg station. I forgot her name, but she was near the pool. And also the beautiful staff in the restaurant, all I can say is they were all amazing. Especially Miss Haslinda and her colleague, they were so friendly. We miss you guys!
