reached around 8.50am. only tried their prata or roti canai. wasn’t in the mood for plain so we ordered egg and egg onions. generally nice crisp outer and soft inner type (not doughy, not mushy) so if compared to sg it’s one of the better ones already.
very lively place, live music from time to time. even the jb grab drivers we had to-and-out of this place wanted to save the location to try it out in future. their table clearers are quite lazy and slow but we chose to do it ourselves/help them out so as to secure our seats and even after we finish eating (since we are already used to the practice in sg).
order of movement: you can use english if you’re not well versed in malay you queue at the cashier (if not enough people then do this first and keep the receipt) cashier was a young malay lady and quite friendly/patient meanwhile if you have enough people, 1 to get seats, 1 can queue for the roti line, 1 can queue for drinks line. roti person can request to make it crispier too, the guy friendly and takes simple requests especially from the locals who seem friendly with him too curry is self service, so some can help the one who queued for the roti later after they got the roti on the silver plates. just be careful especially when the curry levels are high, they have the tendency to splash on your clothes due to the bubbling and if you drop the scoop in too quickly or pull out as well.
we used to go to the corner near customs (standard drop now) but i think this is our go to spot from now on.. only issue is the crowd/whether you can secure a seat. we’re fine with the music even if we sat right next to them so no matter. hopefully they add roti sarang burung with chicken/beef...
Read moreOon Kitchen is best known for their Muslim Breakfast selling Prata as well as their BBQ, and live band in the evening.
While their Western Food, Roti Prata and BBQ are not available during day time, we only have rice and noodles on the menu for our lunch hours.
Let's start with the basic. Even the plain Bee Hoon Goreng smelled good in the simplest ingredients.
Bee Hoon Goreng - RM 8
Likewise, a similar style of the Bee Hoon Goreng but replacing the Bee Hoon with Fried Rice.
Nasi Goreng - RM 8
Oon Kitchen also offers Nasi Goreng with Ayam Sambal if you are looking for something spicy.
Nasi Goreng Ayam Sambal - RM 10
The Kuey Tiaw Goreng smelled good and looked moist.
Kuey Tiaw Goreng - RM 8
The curiosity in me made me buy this as the dish was given an interesting name "kungfoo". The dish was basically our Kway Tiaw seafood from a typical Cze Char Stall topped with a handful of mixed vegetables and soaking in the pool of sweet savoury gravy.
Kungfoo Seafood Kuey Tiaw - RM 12
In fact, Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng was the dish that caught my eye on most of the tables. The fried chicken was aromatic.
Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng - RM 10
The meal came with a bowl of soup, raw vegetables and fried Tempeh.
If you prefer the fish version instead of Fried Chicken, you may want to have this.
Are you looking for fried rice and chicken with onions in sauce? You may want to try out their Nasi Goreng Ayam Merah.
Nasi Goreng Ayam Merah - RM 10
Hopefully, we could find another chance to enjoy breakfast here at Oon...
Read moreThis is one of our favorite place for breakfast with selective good food. We prefer the Roti Canai here as compared to the popular one in Bukit Chagar as it is relatively less greasy. Our other favorite items for breakfast include Mee Soto Ayam, Longtong, Beef Rendang dry Longtong, etc. The Beef Rendang Nasi Lemak which is only served during dinner is quite good too. Other food which we find it less impressive, such as their Western food where the meat is generally too dry and chewy. Some food can be too salty to our taste bud such as Mee Goreng, etc. Overall is still a good place with selective good food, immerse ourselves with nice “warung” ambience that is unique in Malaysia. Be prepared for haphazard food order procedure, having to go to different sections to place the order, despite the staff are basically friendly, plus this place is usually very crowded. There will be server attending to you for order taking during lunch and dinner, hence less hectic and chaotic. The price is extremely reasonable with good value for money. Still recommend this place for good local Malaysian food as unique “warung” culture...
