On Thu 4th July, me & a friend visited this Star Coffee House & Restaurant after reading good reviews. We were not hungry but wanna have some good food upon arrival in Kluang (visited this town since 2013, but yet to patronise this restaurant)!
Yes, my eye is always bigger than my stomach!! So, ordered an Assorted Mala Mushrooms & Fried Beancurd Rolls (10 pcs) - when I ordered I said 蝦卷 in Hokkien Dialect. To my astonishment, it’s Pork!!!
They’ve kindly agreed to replace, which I ordered their Homemade Beancurd (Fried one w starchy gravy 10pcs). When I asked about the portion of claypot style, they said it’s manageable, so we ordered. But, the serving is meant for 4 pax!! (To me 6 pax, as there are other ingredients such as, shiitake mushroom, carrot, sweet pea etc)!
After constructive feedback, the acting manager, Fish had expressed her sincere apology & kindly offered the meal on the house. She assured that they’ll have a management meeting to discuss with Chef to see how best to cater for a smaller portion, 1-2 pax friendly. They will welcome us back, by giving them a chance.
On Sat, 6th July, we met a lovely Indian couple at Zenxin Organic Farm Tour. Both of them are doctors from Salem, South India teaching in medical school, Muar. I gladly brought them to this Chinese Restaurant. At the same time giving them a 2nd chance. This time, we ordered their signature dishes: Crispy Duck w Buns; Rice Wine Ginger Chicken; Assorted Mala Mushrooms & Sambal Brinjal (Total: myr170+ for 4 dishes).
Overall, the food is delicious, but crispy duck was a bit dry (over-rated). Disappointedly, they didn’t make any changes to the portion. Alas ~I maybe too naive to think that they’re genuinely interested to make changes! Again, action speaks louder than a thousand words!! 😂
Anyway, it’s a nice, clean & pleasant dining room. Operates since 1979, but keeps up with the latest trends (menu on iPad). It’s good for a big group dining, surely not for solo or 2 pax, unless ready to ‘shaft’ a serving for 4 pax...
Read moreUnexpected finding as the vegetarian restaurant that we intended to dine in was closed. The staffs are excellent in making us feel comfortable and welcoming. The lady captain that took our order seems to know that we are vegetarian, so she offered information about the ingredients used in the dishes that we ordered, and were really flexible in swapping out the animal based ingredients for us. All the other staffs are very attentive in refilling our tea, taking own initiative to provide us with napkins, and kids friendly cutlery for our children. This is really one of the best Chinese restaurants with service that is top notch and super reasonable pricing. We would definitely come again if we visit Kluang next time. We ordered stir fried spinach, claypot tofu with beancurd sheet and steamed ladies finger with garlic and onions. Every dish is great, and definitely meetss the Chinese fine dining standard. Service was...
Read moreA cosy and great Chinese restaurant for families and friends to enjoy and gather together. A great variety of dishes offered to choose from. We got most of their signature dishes as recommended by the kind and friendly staffs. Their crispy duck has a flavourful taste to it and mixing it with the sweet sauce provided brings it to another level. But the texture of the duck is slightly dry. Ordering the signature tofu and the yam ring with diced chicken and dried chili will never go wrong as both of the dishes are both delectable. They were cooked to almost perfection with the right amount of different ingredients and sauce. The yam ring was certainly my favourite there. Definitely a great place for lunch or dinner and the free refill of tea at a astonishing rate from the staffs...
