This a typical China 🇨🇳 hotpot place with a more localized approach. Decor is pure China but the food variety served can be considered slightly localized. Quality of the food items are average. Portion though is quite generous. I like the sour vegetables soup which was not too sour with a tinge of spiciness. Some of the meat balls were nice while the fuzhou type was so so. The fried fu chok was hard and tasteless. The pork belly slices were generous portion and that was the best among the many items tried as it was smooth and finely sliced. No porky smell. Overall the food was a 3.5/5 and there are also quite a variety of sauces you can mix yourself to complement the hotpot. What differentiate this place from its neighboring competitors is probably the excellent customer service you find it and the many freebies that adds value to the whole meal experience - from free house drink, free Chinese tea, free fruits, free candies for kids, free 1 can of soft drink each person from the fridge, free soft serve ice cream self service, free popcorn while waiting for the soup to boil ….. etc. makes the whole hotpot...
Read moreBroth wise, the Mala and mushroom stock base is good. The pork bones broth is meh. Dishes are pretty decent in size and the dip sauces is buffet style with lotsa choices. Selection of dip sauces is pretty similar to Northern China. The fried rice is so-so & clearly not Malaysian standard but also pretty similar to those found in Northern China. Included in your hotpot meal are 1 can of soda per person, 1 plate of fruits, free flow cordial-like drinks, hot tea and soft serve ice cream (it was taro & strawberry when we were there... Both tasted... Weird... But good palate cleanser). On the noise pollution... Well, we're having hotpot not fine dining... Even without karaoke, it's bound to be noisy 😏, just adds to the atmosphere I guess. If you'd like authentic North China / Chongqing food, this is about it. Advice: don't wear white or you're asking for it... And be prepared to really smell like a walking...
Read moreHad dinner with some friends in Nov. This place was the most crowded among the other steamboat shops nearby. Interior was nicely done up...reminded me of my working days in China. Presentation of the food was interesting. The way the slices of pork belly dressed up the doll etc. Food were fresh. We ordered an extra portion of pork belly and prawns. Although the name of the shop refers to Szechuan steamboat but you have a choice of non spicy soup too. We chose 3 types...herbal soup, tomatoes soup and the mala (spicy szechuan pepper) soup. The sauces (optional) and spicy soup base were a bit salty for my taste. Bit pricey but we had a good time steaming over the hot pot on a cool rainy day. Desserts were unlimited softie ice cream and pop corns. The service by the staff were great. For that i'm giving an extra star. Street...
