I had always been looking forward to trying this place out after seeing the reviews and social media recommending this place. However my first experience here was disappointing. There was no service when I arrived, me and a few other customers went to grab the menu and order chits ourselves. We ordered 2 sets, a set of chicken karaage ramen and another was the ebi furai curry rice. The curry rice was first served, but the karaage ramen had not been served, and after realising that after a few tables that came after us had already gotten their food, I stood up to inform the waitress and she said she would check. 10 minutes had passed and still no sign of my food. After seeing another table getting their food served, I went to the counter to check again, and this time i stood there until I got confirmation from the staff. Good thing I stood there as well, because initially they thought it was the curry that had not yet been served. If I just went back and sat, I'd probably have gotten 2 sets of curries. They give free desserts as well if you give them a 5 star review on Google (which is probably why their reviews are so high to begin with), which I initially ordered as well, but of course that dessert had long been forgotten.
The food was decent, but not worth the nearly 40-minute wait that I had to go through. There was also a funky smell especially toward the back of the shop, hope they would do something about that as it is quite irritating.
Granted this was on Labour Day and the waitress did apologise that they were short on staff. But this mistake of missing an order is not about being short on staff. The system is digital, orders are printed out on paper and sent to the kitchen, so someone made a mistake there and simply missed that piece of paper. I understand mistakes happen sometimes, and I am OK with reminding the kitchen about the missing order once, but I had to remind them 2 times, all while seeing other tables with customers who came in an hour after me already getting their food.
And even if it is an issue of being short on staff, that's not an excuse that the customers have to bear the consequences of it, I'm still paying the same price for the food regardless.
Hope this feedback could inspire some...
Read moreCame across this cafe on Google Maps when I was nearby, and it had such high reviews that it made me curious. Welp, it's definitely true to its rating because I had a really wonderful time there. Who would've thought that this place serves delicious Japanese food because the entrance and setting is just like an ordinary neighbourhood shop.
We were immediately served right after we entered the door. Menu and order chit we placed right after we sat down. There are quite a plethora of menu to choose from; from chicken to fish to eel & duck, to rice, ramen, and udon. Pretty much spoilt for choice, I would say! It wasn't easy to make a decision. Once we're done with the orders, someone came straightaway without us calling. Now, that's very attentive.
Didn't have to wait long for the drinks or food, either. Had their in-house yoghurt, and it was really delicious! Food came right after, and the portion is definitely worth the price paid.
I had the torikatsu curry - smoothest I've ever tasted with the potatoes & carrots boiled to perfect softness. Japanese curry is never spicy, and this is really perfect, even for kids. Generous amount given too. Another set was the smoked duck, and it's also smoked to perfection. It's not very chewy and easy to tear apart. Their miso soup is on the lighter side, which actually balance the overall meal since others are heavily flavoured.
We did order their tori karaage as well, since it's written on the menu's front cover, "probably the best in town." Honestly, it is slightly overhyped (it's just marinated with a bit more ginger) but still tastes good. The yoghurt sauces that came with it actually compliments it to my surprise. This is something unique about it that needs to be tried.
The whole place is also clean and cosy. It's definitely not something you would expect but do give it a try especially if you like Japanese food. A thing to note that they only accept cash or...
Read moreI visited Chic Café for the first time today and was genuinely impressed by everything—from the cozy atmosphere to the delicious food. The café is bright, clean, and has a calm, welcoming vibe that makes it perfect for a solo break or a chill hangout with friends. I ordered the Japanese curry rice with a soft-boiled egg, and it was absolutely comforting. The curry was rich, flavorful, and had just the right amount of spice. The egg was perfectly done—soft, gooey yolk that melted into the rice and curry beautifully. The fried dumplings were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, served piping hot and full of flavor. For dessert, I had the matcha cheesecake, and it was hands down one of the best I’ve tried. It had a strong matcha flavor balanced with a creamy, smooth texture—not too sweet, which I loved. I paired it with a matcha latte that was rich, aromatic, and just lightly sweetened. The quality of their matcha is obvious in every sip.Service was fast and friendly, and everything was served beautifully. The prices are reasonable for the quality and presentation you get. Chic Café has definitely made it to my list of go-to spots whenever I need a little treat or a peaceful afternoon. Highly recommend it if you’re a fan of Japanese flavors or just want a satisfying...
