While in Kajang, we were introduced to a new satay store located at Medan Sate, Jalan Sulaiman, Kajang. Look for store no 2. Zaman Cucu Hj Rono. We decided to check it out and packed home some chicken and beef satay for dinner. The chicken and beef satay meat are tender, well marinated & seasoned. Generously sized and well grilled so just removed the charred meat if any. Some chicken satay has the chicken skin in between though not all on each stick which is good. As it’s a way to make sure there are enough fats to keep the meat juicy & well grilled. The peanut sauce is not too sweet & chili sambal is served separately so you can add according to your preference of chili spiciness of your liking. To me, the best way to test if the satay is good or not, is just eat it without the peanut sauce. If it tasted delicious and flavourful then it’s good quality satay. This Zaman Cucu Hj Rono passed my test and I really like their satay. They served with good portions of fresh cucumbers and onions. Only disappointment is they don’t serve the rice impit like the original ketupat wrap in woven young coconut leaves but in poly-tube form. Other than that they served scrumptious satay. I like that they served freshly prepared satay at the store. I saw two staff busy skewering the Satay meat into satay sticks before being brought into the kitchen behind to be grilled on hot charcoal. After looking at the image of their family tree posted at the shop, we can see the the founders of "Sate Kajang". Surprisingly they are related to Hj Samuri satay. From generational lineage of the business, starting with the first generation, Hj Rono and Hj Tasmin, who were the first to sell satay in Kajang. The family tree then extends to the second, third, and fourth generations, showing how the business was passed down and branched out to different family members and locations. So there are similarities between these two satay stores but in terms of freshness, Zaman Cucu Hj Rono fare...
Read moreTo be clear, this is a stall within the Medan satay in Kajang town opposite Plaza Metro Kajang. Occupying both stalls No 2 and No 4, they seem to have the bulk of the customers opting for satay at this food court.
My takeaway satay consisted of a mix of chicken, beef and mutton. I must say that I was quite blown away with the taste and texture of the satay. All 3 were tender and although well grilled on the outside, remained juicy on the inside. The other test of a good satay is just having it without the peanut sauce. Not many will pass this test but Zaman passed with flying colours. The meats were well marinated and seasoned and were equally good with or without the sauce. And staying authentic for a good satay, there were some charred bits on the meats. Now for those who don’t like charred bits on their satay, a word of advice: just go across the road and eat at the KFC!
The peanut sauce was thick and full of peanuts. Not the thick starchy variety either. The chilli sambal was provided separately so you can add as much or as little to your personal preference.
The nasi Impit came in a large poly-tube and this may be my only grouse - I miss the authentic ketupat made in the woven coconut palm leaves. A decent amount of cucumber and onions were also provided.
Overall this was a delightful find. Finally a satay with an authentic heritage going back to one of the original founders of Kajang satay (Haji Rono). Zaman (this is the name of Haji Rono’s grandson who is operating the stall now) has done his grandfather proud and I’m happy to recommend this place to anyone looking for an authentic...
Read moreThe best & still the best ! Original taste & you can just eat the satay by itself without gravy & taste the juicy of the meat .The meat are tender. The satay gravy too are still taste the best. Best about this stall they served satay tembusu & babat too. Which not many does satay tembusu anymore. Price wise reasonable . You pay for the quality.
The stall is located opposite Metro Kajang Mall (the old foodcourt) & parking can be madness here , make sure you park your car or else you will be fine. The stall is the 2nd stall from the main road. A simple typical food court style of stall. Clean & kinda quiet.
Once you eat here you won’t want to eat at other satay stalls. Fyi the locals eat here too. A must eat...
