This church used to be my to go but after this evening's incident, I have my reservations. It is lovely that it has central AC et all but the incense burnt could be toned down as it is rather strong and causes one to cough/choke. Maybe that is many of the elderly wear masks? On top of that, parishioners double park, blocking those who want to drive off earlier. There was a procession after mass and it would have been a huge help if it was announced to remind those who were participating and blocking others to remove their cars prior to joining happily in the procession. Not everyone church goer know the events going on especially for people like me who happen to want to attend Sunset Mass here and just visiting. Imagine having to wait for over an hour with my 88 year old mum as my car was completely blocked off! No help even from staff or the priest I spoke to - who very cooly tells me "you have no choice but to wait!" What if there was an emergency, god forbid. Then what???? Rela staff should be stricter with parking and in the future allow non procession participants to park at a different zone. When the owners of these cars returned, you'd think an apology would have been uttered - but no! They even had the nerve to give that...
Read moreI used to love coming to this church—until today. Unfortunately, I had a disheartening experience. I took a candle from the basket as I entered, and almost immediately, a parishioner called out to me, pointing to the container filled with cash and asking, "Have you donated?"
When I explained that I didn’t have any cash on me, he responded, "No cash? Then don’t take the candle." I was genuinely shocked by his words. Is this what the church has become—money-oriented?
I didn’t refuse to give; I simply didn’t have cash at the time. I would’ve gladly donated through a QR code or another method if that’s what was expected. But don’t call it a "donation" if it’s being demanded like a payment. That doesn’t feel like generosity—it feels like extortion.
I’ve never had a problem giving a little extra during the offerings, trusting that it could cover something as simple as a candle. What I do hope is that the church encourages its parishioners to be more mindful of their words and to set a gracious example for others.
I never thought one moment could affect my view of this church—but...
Read moreLimited parking within the church grounds, people usually double park or block your car during masses. Alternatively, can park at roadside, parking lots at the shop lots nearby or park near the dong zong parking lots. Daily morning mass are available in English. Weekend masses in English, Malay and sometimes community mass in Tamil, Chinese, English and Malay. Community mass is much longer due to having all 4 languages spoken in one mass, e.g. normal mass 1 hr, community mass 1.5-2 hrs. Air-conditioning can be quite cold, bring a sweater. Some wardens are quite unfriendly and pushy, ignore them. They are all volunteers. It is a big church that can seat several hundred people...
