Background of Restaurant Big Eye Restaurant is a new entrant in Salak South crowded Chinese home-style dining scene, promising hearty, no-frills comfort food.
Ambience The space is clean and modern—a step above typical hole-in-the-wall spots—but functionality falters. The bulky chairs and cramped tables make group dining awkward, hinting at a design oversight rather than intentional coziness.
Service Disappointingly sluggish. Menus don’t arrive unprompted, and staff seem distracted, requiring patrons to flag them down for basic requests. In a city where street vendors deliver sharper hospitality, this lack of attentiveness stands out—unforgivable for a restaurant banking on homestyle warmth.
Food & Drink A mixed bag. The curry’s watery consistency suggests either haste or a misguided attempt at lightness, failing to deliver the rich depth expected of Chinese-style curries. Yet redemption comes in the form of well-executed eggs, prawns, and mantis prawn—dishes that are flavorful, if not groundbreaking. The kitchen shows potential but needs consistency.
Overall Big Eye Restaurant feels like a work in progress. The food has flashes of competence, but inconsistency and lackluster service...
Read moreThe presentation of the dishes was impressive, especially the roasted duck which looked and tasted great. However, it would be even better if a chilli sauce was served alongside it, as it would nicely complement the flavour for those who enjoy a bit of spice. Most of the other dishes were well done too, though the glass noodles in the prawn dish were slightly on the salty side. The cuttlefish with water spinach could be improved—perhaps a more flavourful sauce would enhance the overall taste.
The ambience was pleasant and well-decorated, creating a comfortable dining experience. The live dancers performing upstairs added a unique cultural touch, but it’s a bit of a missed opportunity that guests on the lower floor can’t enjoy the performance as well—this could be improved for better overall marketing impact.
A special mention goes to the staff, who were friendly, helpful and stood out in their unique, overalled maxi-style uniforms. A nice touch that added character to the dining experience. Keep up...
