I'll start with service. Good but waiting times to be served could be better. Floor staff were great and the welcome was good. Atmosphere, well built, but why have a bar esque backdrop when no alcohol is served? Or were we given an incomplete menu?
Now the food. Absolutely rubbish. We ordered more than we needed just to sample what was on the menu and having looked at the smoker right outside the establishment, one would expect there to be a smoker element in a bbq place. The brisket, no smoke rings, but delicious although a bit dry. The pulled lamb, a little dry too and lacked flavours. The lamb ribs are an atrocity to what they're trying to show here by mimicking a semi texan style bbq. Dry, greasy and mind you I'm not talking about lamb fats. The rub is just salt and pepper with a light dusting of what I'm guessing are one of the two peppers. Where's the onion powder? Garlic powder? Crust is good but there was too much crust on it. Was this at any point something from yesterday or the day before and then reheated? It was dry and pathetic. The slaw, needed more flavours and I don't mean salt. Acidity was lacking, complexity was lacking, it was like a 10 year old watched a youtube video, combined 2 cabbages, added mayo and salt and was happy with it. The mashed potatoes, instead of adding butter (or I assume it's butter as there was too little to actually sample) at the end, why not incorporate the fats and some milk in there for a better texture? First bite was good but as it cools down, it dries up and becomes sand in your mouth. Baked beans were low effort as well as there was no smokiness and complexity. Feels like a canned product. Mac and cheese was decent but that's where it stops. The brioche, could be more buttery for the price charged on every item on the menu. All in all, do you people have no taste buds or are you giving this 4 stars because it's not a common local offering? And the icing on the cake. The peri peri chicken was a dry dissapointment of the absolute day. Chicken was chopped without thought by someone in the kitchen who doesn't know how to cut chickens. Just a cleaver through random parts. If you charge as much as you do, it's fine but at least learn to serve and plate properly and not go down the chicken rice hawker butcher's block cleaver route and by the way, they do a better job than this place. Chicken was extremely dry (signs of it not being a good bbq or a smokery) and a peri peri sauce that coats the chicken at the end instead of being cooked with it as a marinade? Hell your peri peri sauce tasted like Asam Pedas rather than peri peri. Too cheap and cutting costs on the peppers and ingredients you need for a proper peri peri? What an absolute joke.
Finally the sauces. Spicy bbq and a weird attempt at a mild sauce that doesn't impart anything other than it's a sauce. Where's the ranch sauce? Too expensive to make? Then add something like a garlic aioli which isn't a Texan BBQ staple but you lack cream sauce and why are your sauces so lacking? Where's the oomph? It feels like an establishment that's trying to maximise profits without caring for a diner's experience or a head chef that doesn't have a trained palate or extensive experience in the field.
I will never come back here. You're a restaurant so stop cutting costs on spices and herbs to make astonishing meals for your customers. The only highlight...
Read moreWe had a party of 10 pax here to try out this place’s american styled bbq for a year end/christmas gathering meal. Ordered the most expensive platter combination offering to share amongst 10 pax alongside another 10 piece Nashville style hot fried chicken with the various sides accompanied.
The austin bbq platter, we opted for the espresso flavour for the lamb ribs, as it was the more sweeter marinade vs the typical bbq and slightly spicy memphis style.
Lamb ribs was decently moist and flavourful. Slightly sweet and savouriness to it with smokey notes. 4/5
Beef brisket was alright only in my opinion as I was using authentic american st louis style brisket bbq as a comparison. The brisket is not as moist and full of juices, but flavours wise was decent. I would put the brisket as 3/5 for myself, as I’ve tried legit american brisket at st. Louis myself. But for Malaysians that hasn’t tried american bbq before this can be a 4/5 for you maybe.
Jerk chicken was normal as well. 3/5
Pulled lamb was also ok as well. 3/5
Fried chicken was pretty solid with very flavourful and moist marinade overall. My guess is that it was pre marinated and brined overnight before, and the crust/coating is the more traditional spiced flour. I would give it a 4/5. Mash potatoes and coleslaw was decent, super creamy and whipped mash and refreshing vinegary slaw. Hot sauce was a very good spicy sauce for spicy eaters. 4/5 for all sides.
Overall I would say burning pit offers decent starting/beginner level bbq experience for malaysians in general. However if you’re really hunting for proper beef brisket bbq I would say this spot as average only, as its overall flavours was not big and bold enough in my opinion. But overall still a solid entry into the world of bbq for first...

Ordered: Double Wagyu Smash Cheeseburger 🍔⭐️ (RM55) Fill your cravings with wagyu patties, beef brisket, and cheddar! The pickled gherkins and onions gave a good crunch, plus enhancing its flavour at the same time.
Philly Cheese 🧀⭐️ (RM32) Pulled beef brisket, sautéed green & red peppers, cheddar, and caramelised onions sandwiched between toasted ciabatta bread. Sweet and cheesy sensation, a crowd's favourite! 🤩
Sloppy Joe's 🌭 (RM32) Similar to Philly Cheese but slightly spicier due to the jalapeño peppers and beef chilli.
Birria Taco 🌮 (RM28) Peppery with some spice hints; liked the acidity of yoghurt that elevated its taste 😋
2pcs Nashville Fried Chicken 🍗 (RM25) Comes with small mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Crispy fried chicken dipped well with Nashville sauce - sweet at first, then numbing at the aftertaste; be careful to not take too much ⚠️
Beignets 🍫 (RM16) Airy and savoury; we opted for the dark chocolate syrup but the flavour was mild.
Peach Cobbler 🍑⭐️ (RM23) Bursting flavours from peach cubes, tart berry compote, warm buttery crumble, and vanilla ice cream - what a delicate treat! 🍨
DRINKS (RM16.90 each) Buzzy Mint 🍃 - green apple, lime, asam boi infused syrup, mint syrup
Virgin Mojito 🌿 - club soda / sprite, lime, mint syrup
