Hidden inside a very beautiful library, this Arabian cafe is the perfect companion for said latter. Bear in mind that any videos you might find of their menu might be misleading, because it has changed quite a bit (the staff informed us that the menu in the video was their old one which was a Afghanistan based, while their new one is more Egyptian). Very Instagrammable, I'm sure most people would definitely take lots and lots of pictures while dining there. So with that said, we tried both kebab with rice options, one is lamb and the other is the mixed kebab. We had to wait quite a few even though there's only a few tables occupied (waiting time is around 15 minutes), yet I would say that the wait is worth it. The kebab meat is juicy and tender (yeah I know, it's cliché). It is what I have come to expect when it comes to Arabian cuisine. The price is reasonable (I guess they had to account for the students since the library is under IIUM). Although if I had to pick, the stand out menu would be their Persian Latte. It has that very unique taste, thanks to the saffron and cardamom. Definitely a must try if you're a coffee drinker. Although if I have anything to nit-pick, it is probably that for an Arabian cuisine, the portions are more in line with local food. If you didn't get that reference, what I meant is the portion is pretty small when compared to other Arabian outlets. But other than that, it's solid overall. I mean, I would definitely recommend it if you're already going to the Syed Naquib Al-Attas library.

A hidden gem tucked in Bukit Tunku — Convivencia Café Never knew this café existed despite its signs of time. Convivencia is nestled within the serene grounds next to the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC-IIUM), surrounded by leafy courtyards and a tranquil academic atmosphere. Took a short peaceful exploration stroll through the Azman Hashim Courtyard before dining — a lovely pre-meal moment. Was sadly not at its best though the buildings have potential with unique architecture. The café itself sits quietly next to some residential quarters for academic students. Visitors should note that modest clothing is recommended out of respect for the environment, especially if you plan to explore the adjacent library (open only on weekdays), which is worth a visit for its architecture and peaceful vibes. Menu-wise, the food leans Mediterranean — think salads, breakfast platters, and rice-based dishes. The rice with meat was comforting and flavorful; if you’re eyeing that, best to pre-order as it takes time to prepare. You can also add on pita bread if you like a fuller spread for sharing. Try on the iranian tea with saffron honey stick or the persian coffee to complete the meal or a refreshing cool mint. Tip: The main entrance is closed on weekends, so access is only via the exit gate — just something to note when planning your route.

This is hands down the most authentic Middle Eastern food I’ve had in a restaurant. It instantly brought back memories of a meal I had years ago at my Iranian friend’s home — a beautifully cooked, generous spread made with love. I never thought I’d relive that flavor again, but somehow, this place brought it all back. Yes, the food takes time to arrive (about 15 minutes), so if you’re in a rush, this might not be the place for you. But if you appreciate food that’s carefully and properly prepared, it’s absolutely worth the wait. The atmosphere is lovely, though a bit dated — but it adds to the charm and homely feel. One thing to note: the restaurant is located within or near a religious Muslim institution, so please be mindful of your attire if you plan to explore the surrounding area. The staff are incredibly friendly. Special mention to the manager, Naim, who speaks fluent English and offered outstanding hospitality. Service here is truly five-star. Highly recommended for anyone craving genuine, heartwarming Middle Eastern cuisine!

Yeah the place is nice. Food is ok. But i do not recommend if you wish to held your special day here. I am truly disappointed with the management. I apologise to the staff for getting my emotions over the place, I know they did their best. I sincerely apologise.

But for the manager? Totally disappointing. I am not a last minute planner, we have been contacting the venue, coming by ourselves to make sure our ceremony could be done perfectly but during the event: They got our reservation messed up. Not only us, theres 1 more group told us the same because our event running at the same time as them. Their reservation got messed up as well. I cant decorate the event ourselve because the manager (on the event day) mentioned previous person can decorate since they pay more than us. I don't understand why this is not mentioned beforehand when we visited and spoke with the manager. Mind you that we have let the manager know all our plan from the floor plan to the decoration long before the event day. All is ok at the beginning but suddenly on the day mentioning we pay less hence we cannot decorate? Do you understand that people spend money to produce things to decorate and on that date it cannot be use? frustrating

I understand there was a change in management, but why do you blame the customer for not knowing things. We will pay as per what we agreed doesn't matter you change manager or what. When meeting with the manager (before event day) we were told the cafe will be closed for us from 3-6pm. But on the day, that didn't happen. Some more they keep mentioning we need to pay even more on the day itself to make sure we can proceed with our initial plan. How are u going to close if we pay amount you ask for when there are other 18pax group of people here for their reservation?

Truly disappointing experience for me. I hope the cafe do better and...

Summary 3/5: Ok food, nice interior & environment, weak service. Overrated. Not wheelchair accessible.

The FOOD 3/5: It was okay but not wow, had much better Mediterranean food in MY before. The details: Mandi Rice Lamb - Moist, tasty, the lamb is very tender, almost melt in the mouth. The rice was ok, but the accompanied soup was totally tasteless. Tikka Chicken was almost 100% identical to the Mandi Rice Lamb, with only the meat that's different. The chicken was a bit overcooked and dry. Baklava dessert - 2 tiny pieces of Baklava desserts. Not too sweet and not as flakey as expected. Pass. Persian Latte - No different from standard coffee tastes, not recommended. Iran Tea with Saffron Candy - much better choice of drink, good flavor and refreshing. Love it.

The VALUE 2.5/5: average portion size and ok food, I guess we are paying for the environment and decor?

The ENVIRONMENT 4/5: Nice, Quiet and beautiful decorations, just like the social media hype. There's a balcony where you can walk out to enjoy some greenery. But there's not much of a view other than greenery. Aged furniture, relaxing music.

The SERVICE 2.5/5: The cafe opens at 8am, but still unprepared when we reached around 9:30am. Long wait for food. The staff are non Malaysian but unable to understand English & BM, difficult to communicate. Cashless payments such as DuitNow QR available.

LOCATION & PARKING 3/5: it's location at Bukit Tungu means it is secluded and less commercialized. FREE parking, but take note that it is a 1 way drive, entering from 1 side and coming out from the other. The common parking at the front is already FULL when we arrive around 9:15 am on a public holiday. We park at the roadside parking at the back (after the staff parking), which is closer to the restaurant entrance. Not...
