I am always opened for new places to try - as I'm a firm believer that "never try, never know" - if it's good, it'll go into my permanent list, but if it's not that will be my first and last visit. In my quest to look for porkylicious place to eat, I found Fortyone Cafe in Happy Garden. As usual, I called upfront to ensure that we have secured table after driving for more than 40 min.
A typical cafe setting but they allowed to bring wine with a corkage fee which I appreciate.
◾Soup - we had in total two bowls of soup in (1) Tomato & Basil soup and (2) Boston Clam Chowder; both were hearty to warm the tummy before the mains. ◾BBQ Pork Rib Platter - Oven Roasted Imported Meaty Rib Glazed with Homemade BBQ Sauce, with 3 side to choose. We had truffle fries with cheese (extra RM3), mesclun green salad and 6 giant chicken popcorns. The BBQ sauce was leaning to sweet side - it'd be perfect if they can tone down the sweetness. ◾Signature Pork Burger was quite humongous with one thick pork patty, tomato, salad, melted sliced cheese and BACON (everything is better with bacon). The sonny helped himself to gorge down hungrily. ◾Chicken Parmesan - Cheese Gratin Fried Boneless Chicken Chop served With French Fries & Side Of Green Salad. Options for original or spicy sauce which we opted for the original. Loved the generous amount of cheese gratin on top of the nicely grilled chicken. ◾Smoked Garlic Pork Sausage was the choice of the youngest princess and she loved it.
This is more of a neighborhood cafe as many people were seen eating happily after walking at pasar...
Read moreAs a first time (attempted) diner . We were disappointed by the service provided . We , party of 8 , arrived at around 5.30pm (+-) to avoid the crowd as we did not make prior reservation . Upon entering we noted that there were only 2-3 other tables occupied . We proceeded to inform the server the number of pax dining and we were offered a table that had not been cleaned or in the midst of being cleaned near the entrance .
However, since we had a few young children with us, we weren’t keen on sitting by the entrance as we don’t wish for them to get hurt or obstruct the entrance as usually young children might move about around the table .
We requested for a table nearer to the counter on the inside . The server was pretty reluctant to offer us that table and told us that table was reserved. So just as we were about to ask if they could offer us another spot a little further from the entrance , another family walked in .. informed the server the number of pax dining and they were directly given the table which we have requested for earlier . We believe that the group had no prior reservation as well .. as no name or reservation details was given before they were offered the very table which was supposedly reserved .
That really made us feel unwelcome and we decided to move to another dinning spot as we couldn’t understand why such a simple request could be handled so unprofessionally. It would be good if the cafe could improve on its...
Read moreOne of the best places to have pork ribs, IMHO. We ordered Mongolian pork ribs (slight tangy, sweet taste akin to char siew with beautifully caramelised surface). The ribs were tender to the bite. I reckon I'd be able to eat this when I'm old and without proper teeth to chew!
The mushroom soup with cheese croutons are a must have if you love your mushroom soups! It was a tad bit saltier than I would have liked but I'm not gonna turn down a hearty bowl of good ol' mushroom soup. The cheese croutons compliments the soup very, very well too.
We've also read that the homemade mashed potatoes were the bang and so we ordered a "leveled up" version of it — bacon and onion mashed potatoes! I'd have to say although the mashed potatoes were good, it doesn't really do it for me. I prefer mine a lá Chili's where the potato skin bits is incorporated into the mash and less runny. Again, it's all personal preference. I urge you to try it for yourselves and you be the judge. 😁
All in all, nice place, friendly servers, great food and coffee at a decent price point. Would definitely revisit again for their pork ribs (Morgenfield is lackluster when compared to the ribs here. I'd personally rank it slightly...
