Have come here a few times but peak hour is horrendous. Food is as per usual, not bad... but if the owner is going to prioritize grab orders over dine in customers... then sorry, I wouldn't recommend this place at all! Might as well just open a kiosk to cater to your grab orders only, save your cost.
We waited about 50mins for our rice to come, our soup and other side orders were cold already. When asked, the person in charge just keeps saying I dont know, doesnt even think twice about whats on our table left cold. Can't even give an approximation of how long, blames that the claypot runs on charcoal la, cannot speed things already la etc. Hello? If you are experiencing high loads of orders, there is a function on grab that allows temporary pause on orders, that will give you time to tend to your walk-in customers first isn't it?
We saw at least 3 tables of customers walk out because of long waiting times. Again to the owner: are you that desperate for sales that you are willing to sacrifice your walk-in customers for grab orders? If so, sorry... we are not coming back here nor will we recommend this place. The food is good, but definitely NOT worth 50 mins wait, and with a lan si person at the counter... kiss goodbye to your business then. Not even an ounce of effort to calm...
Read moreLong time did not eat claypot chicken rice. Nearest untried is this Connaught branch. Had eaten before at their main shop near Pudu market. 5 stars for food there but difficult to find empty parking. Here at night plenty of parking in front of the shop. Order 2 medium size for 3 person. One normal claypot chicken rice and the other pot try out their lap Mei claypot rice. The chicken deserved 5 stars. Plenty of chicken meat with right amount of marinate. Serve salted fish on a small metal bowl on top of the rice during cooking. Mind You they insist 5o cook using charcoal to bring out the traditional taste. Plenty of lap Mei in the other pot. Nice lap Cheong but the wax duck meat need strong teeth. It is an acquired taste which I do not have. Maybe my grands generation time. Do note lap Mei only available during CNY as they are source from Hong Kong. We also order a double boiler old cucumber medium size. It can feed into 3 bowls and still have extra. We stuff ourselve to finish the food ordered. Next time will go for the belly meat. The shop also sells other dishes like pig trotter vinegar, pig stomach soup, yellow wine chicken and others. All food are cooked right in front...
Read moreNote: Of all the negative reviews on this Michelin Bib Gourmand-rated restaurant, I considered myself lucky to have a pleasant dinner experience here.
So we were in Cheras and it was dinner time. This part of Taman Connaught has a lot of F&B and we settled for Heun Kee, as everyone craved for Claypot chicken rice.
The kitchen was located in front of the restaurant so all the live actions can be seen.
◾Claypot Chicken Rice with additional HK Liver Sausage (+RM10) - 3 sizes available to fit number of diners. Chunky chicken meat and lap cheong covered the surface area and the rice was drizzled with aromatic oil and soy sauce. Had to scrap the claypot bottom for the burnt crispy rice. Liver sausage was delicious! ◾Claypot Smoked Belly Rice - familiar to the claypot chicken rice with the same sauce and seasoning, but with nice thick-cut smoked belly. ◾Homemade seafood tofu was polished off instantly while waiting for the rice. Crispy skin & piping hot filling inside tasted so good with chily sauce. ◾Double boiled soup in the form of old cucumber soup was flavourful.
Perhaps the owner should look into the recent complaints and inconsistency, in order to uphold its...
