Have eaten at this roadside "dai chau" stall located along that stretch of popular eateries (roast duck and what have you) in Kepong Baru many times. Each and every visit has been a satisfying culinary experience. Quite an extensive menu. This visit, ordered the deep-fried tilapia @ RM18 and salt n pepper calamari @ RM28 (small portion). Fish is fresh without mud taste, really crispy. Perfect when eaten with the good grade soy sauce drizzle. Calamari is done with the right balance of salt and pepper. The squids taste heavenly in that mixture. Do eat them quickly for they go soft quite fast especially with the fans blowing at full speed. Do take note that there's now an on-going (few months already) tilapia fish promotion of RM18 per fish, limited to one a table. It's not mini, scrawny fish for that price. Thick, good size fish - fresh and free of unpleasant mud taste - is what you get. Real and worthy bargain! No scam! The place is also famous and popular for cold sweet desserts (refer photo). Ordered one ABC in brown sugar @ RM6 with fine ice savings. Not the no-standard rough shavings. Delicious but can be a tad too sweet for those who are sugar-averse. Can always request for less sweet though. Extended seating area available behind the stall under a canopy in the evening. Daily 1230pm-1100pm. Closed one day a month, to be announced. Call to confirm (contact in business card in photo). Note: This review is about the roadside stall, not the air-conditioned Fat Boon restaurant in a proper shop at The Herz (also nearby).

All About Dessert Part II - awesome variety We can't deny that generally Malaysians are a sweet lot. We simply love our desserts to satisfy our sweet cravings. With our hot & humid climate, cold dessert businesses are booming. For a while I'd seen this Fat Boon appearing on my feeds. Primarily a restaurant - please refer to the name 😅 - I came here only for the desserts late afternoon & I still had to fight for table.. no queueing system but standing right next to a table that had finished their food & drinks. ◾Ice Kacang - for me, this is the very definition of what Ice Kacang should be. Shaved ice drizzled with evaporated milk and then gula melaka, and then topped with crushed roasted peanut and sago. Wished that they gave more peanuts though 😋 ◾Yam dessert - similar to Kento's with sago & green jelly (cendol), the yam topping was definitely more colourful with bright purple (most likely artificial colouring added in). Delicious but not as good as Kento's. ◾Mango dessert - tasted one scoop and I couldn't help but to compare with KTZ. Tasty on its own accord with large mango cubes. ◾Bubur Cha Cha - to the picky daughter's delight, they served desserts other than shaved ice (sai mai lo) and Bubur Cha Cha was available.. she polished the whole bowl. One thing that I like about Fat Boon is the variety of desserts available. I noticed the dai chow dishes on other tables but it wasn't time for dinner yet so we skipped the idea.

Extremely disappointing meal at FatBoon tonight. I have been coming to FatBoon for years and have always enjoyed the meals here. This is why me and my group of 12 chose to come here tonight on the 1st day of Chinese new year to celebrate. We booked a table ahead of time and was asked to pay a deposit of RM100. When we arrived, we noticed that the reserved table only has 9 chairs and we requested for 3 more. The boss very rudely yelled at his worker to express his dissatisfaction in front of all his customers. Our table has been placed on the road under a temporary roof next to the rubbish area. The area constantly smelled of old fish and cigarette smoke. It was raining and the rain was splattering onto the side of the table. We requested to be repositioned to a more central area of the restaurant and the boss replied with an extremely arrogant attitude, stating "do you know we have more than 10 bookings tonight?!" And for us to "慢慢等". We decided to still dine in as we have paid RM100 already, hoping the food will be as good as usual. After ordering food, we waited for 1 hour and 10 minutes before the food was served. The food was unfortunately mediocre and cannot compare to their usual standard. We were charged RM 478 total for the 7 dishes we ordered. Honestly would give negative stars if I could.
