I don’t usually write a review. When I do, it’s either the restaurant is superb or terrible. Luca BSC is the latter.
Firstly, I tried calling for an hour from 11:22am (it opens at 11:30am daily according to Google) and the line was engaged for one hour yesterday. Business was too good on a Thursday morning?
I requested to change the reservation from from 7pm to 6:30pm when the staff sent me a message via WhatsApp, but I found out that they didn’t do so when I arrived at the restaurant in the evening. Fine, since there was already a table reserved for us. Not allowed to BYO wine, but 5 out of 8 the house wines were not available, left us with limited choices. Was it done intentionally so the customers are forced to order more expensive wines ranging from RM240 and above per bottle? Now that was a bad start.
Then came the food:
The bill came to RM1,084 with 2 bottles of house wines (RM340) & 2 glasses of house wines (RM70). The food highlight of the night was the onde-onde cake we brought for the birthday girl; whole cake only cost RM90 and it was so good and satisfying. The restaurant looks atas and the price certainly is atas. 90% of the servers are foreign workers. I am not discriminating against foreigners, but at least train them well for the prices The Cinnamon Group charge. 4.3 review ratings from 89 people on Google were not impressive,...
Read moreBeautiful environment and setting especially the bar area alongside but food at the Chef Take Over and Albert Wines event was incredibly slow. A lot of hit and misses with the dishes too.
Update after the Owner sent a reply about my feedback, here is the feedback from 4 of us who dined at Luca for this event...
Smoked salmon gravlax - A really good start, well balanced acidity and dressing with the fresh salmon.
Coconut brined cod with Galangal beurre blanc - An innovative attempt to pair cod with galangal, the pan sear on the cod was nicely done with a good crisp. We didn't find the galangal to work overly well with the dish though.
French duck cassoulet - Classically this is a pork dish, but the chef did reasonably well to swop this with duck. Alas, the balance of beans and meat was very former heavy, and the duck was a wee bit dry. We are grateful that the Taylors chef did come out, and accept our feedback though when we described this to him.
Lamb sheekh wrapped lamb loin, masala pomme paolo - Off balance and dissapointing, the masala spices overpowered the dish and this was a difficult dish to pair with any wine. Not even the CDP from Southern Rhone could stand up to the spice. I did however enjoyed the potato.
Lemon curd tartlet - Refreshing end to the meal and much needed after the previous Lamb course. Paired nicely with the sweet Riesling, Weinrieder Beerenauslese 2014 which I plan to...
Read moreBrought my small family to have lunch here for my wife’s birthday. We were warmly greeted by the servers and seated nicely by the beautiful corner of the restaurant. I would say that the majestic interior was splendid and gives it a luxurious ambience and experience as a whole. The service provided was excellent from the very beginning until the end of our session and absolutely praiseworthy. We were even gifted birthday cake which was on the house. Anyhow, we’d love to humbly give a few words on the food though. Overall to me, the presentation was okay. We’ve had spaghetti beef bolognaise which was excellent and loved by my son. My wife went with my suggestion which was the lamb rack and sadly it was a disappointment. The gravy was too liquidy and was rather bland. The lamb felt a little too tried. I ordered my self the sizzling chili garlic prawn which was delicious though too oily. The third meal was nachos. Though the portion was huge, the beef bolognaise was mediocre and all the nachos were tangled and made it difficult for us to enjoy it. Despite the small disappointments we’ve had on the food. We enjoyed our time here and we admire the level of service provided. Should we come here again? Yes definitely , but with improved taste of...
