Review for Rakh @ KL: An Unmissable Gem in Kuala Lumpur! 🌟
I’ve visited a lot of bars across cities, but Rakh @ KL stands out as one of the most unique and fascinating spots I’ve ever experienced—and I’m not just talking about KL. This place takes creativity to another level with its concept of crafting liquor from food substances. It’s not just a bar; it’s a full-on flavor adventure.
First Discovery: A Happy Accident 🍹 I stumbled upon Rakh purely by chance. I was at a coffee roaster nearby when I noticed this intriguing spot. The menu caught my eye, and curiosity got the better of me. So I walked in, and the bartender explained the concept in detail. I was instantly intrigued, and trust me—it only got better from there.
First Drink: Chili Oil Mocktail 🌶️ The first thing I tried was their chili oil-based mocktail. Let me tell you—this was an explosion of flavors! Unlike any mocktail I’ve ever had, it was less sweet, perfectly balanced, and packed with bold, spicy notes. It set the tone for my love affair with this bar.
Round Two: The Cocktails That Blew My Mind 🍸
I couldn’t resist coming back in the New Year to explore their cocktail menu. I tried three cocktails this time, and each one was better than the last. Rasam Cocktail – This was my absolute favorite! It’s a South Indian dream in a glass. The flavors of rasam were spot on, and it even had a hint of curd on top. You don’t taste the alcohol at all, but the flavor journey is out of this world. A must-try. Cold Brew Cocktail – I’m a huge fan of espresso martinis, but this one? Next level. The cold brew cocktail at Rakh is a perfect mix of coffee and alcohol, with a flavor that lingers long after you’ve finished your drink. Simply the best. Tamarind Whiskey Cocktail – My friend tried this one, and it came with a tamarind pickle on top! The tangy tamarind flavors mixed with smoky whiskey made for an unforgettable combination. Beer, Whiskey & Banana Cream Cocktail – This one was fun and playful, with a mix of beer, whiskey, and banana cream. It felt like a sparkling beer with a twist. Not my personal favorite, but it was creative and worth trying.
The People Make It Even Better 💬 What made our visit even more memorable was the amazing hospitality. The manager had recently moved from Bangalore, and he was super friendly and welcoming. We had a great chat about the bar, the concept, and he even treated us to two drinks on the house since it was our second visit. That kind of personal touch is rare to find.
Final Verdict: 10/5 Experience
Rakh @ KL isn’t just a bar; it’s an experience you’ll never forget. The cocktails are bold, unique, and packed with creativity, and the service is top-notch. It’s not a 5/5—it’s a 10/5 in my book. I’ll be recommending this place to everyone I know.
If you’re in Kuala Lumpur, make sure to visit Rakh @ KL. You won’t regret it. It’s a place that stays with you long after you’ve left. ✨ Go. Try. Experience. Thank...
Read moreI did not want to rate this so low especially after the great evening I had there but what Rakh charged me for was unacceptable and I believe others visiting should also be aware of this.
I had visited Rakh on the 30th of April with a couple friends and when I tried their rasam drink I ordered one for myself Since I was also hungry I asked if they served any snacks to which the waiter responded that the kitchen was closed
Now this rasam drink comes with a cracker on top and i asked if its possible I can get an extra cracker with my drink as a favour The waiter responded yes of course and when i received my drink the extra cracker was huge in portion. I was very happy with the customer service and proceeded to drink more
When the bill arrived we noticed a 60rm extra charge for a rasam drink we didnt have. When we asked them they told is that was the charge for the cracker 60rm For a cracker Let that sink in.
Picture attached of drink/cracker as reference
What sits with me the wrong way is: -Why did the waiter not communicate this beforehand? -I asked if its possible just an extra small cracker they give with the drink- why did they go ahead and give me a big portion (3-4x the size) without consulting me first if it was chargeable? -Why was this charge not explained once the bill came , they had just parked it under the name of another extra drink? How are we even supposed to know unless we dont check throughly first?
This was utter nonsense and really left a bad taste in my mouth afterwards. Will not be returning, and those who...
Read moreThis bar reimagines Indian flavours in their cocktails while keeping sustainability at the forefront. 🐟 𝐍𝐨. 𝟒 - RM60 This signature gin cocktail of theirs was made to taste like smoked salmon 🤯 We were definitely skeptical at first but it was so good! We could smell and taste the smoked salmon, yet the cocktail was still palatable. What’s even more fun was that they used a frozen pebble to keep the drink cold, so definitely no dilution! 🍅 𝐍𝐨. 𝟏𝟎 - RM60 Another signature tipple, one highly recommended by many. Inspired by the South Indian broth, this came with addition of tomato purée ferment on top of a crispy pappadum. The contrast between the cold slushie cocktail made with liquid nitrogen and the warm foam added another dimension of intrigue for us. 🍓 𝐍𝐨. 𝟏𝟑 - RM50 Strawberry cheesecake in a cocktail??! While the flavours weren’t super prominent, we loved that the cocktail was fizzy and easy to drink. The wild ferment strawberry leather garnish was fun to have too, albeit a little tough 🍯 𝐍𝐨. 𝟏𝟕 - RM55 Notes of fig, chocolate distillate and fermented honey drew my attention, and while those notes were subtle, they still existed. The upcycled wine used gave the cocktail a nice fizz too. Another easy drink to enjoy 🙂↕️ An added bonus is that Rākh is located at The Five where a lot of cool F&B places are, including Rakh’s sister Indian restaurant that’s in the Michelin’s Guide! Definitely a place worth...
