As a self-proclaimed sushi aficionado, I am always on the lookout for authentic Japanese cuisine. Umi Ka Shin, nestled in the heart of the city, is a true hidden gem that has exceeded my expectations. From the moment I stepped inside, I knew I was in for an unforgettable culinary journey.
The ambiance is a harmonious blend of modern and traditional design, evoking a sense of tranquility and warmth. The soothing sounds of a gentle waterfall, the delicate aroma of tatami mats, and the soft glow of paper lanterns transport you to a serene oasis, setting the stage for a remarkable dining experience.
Umi Ka Shin prides itself on the freshness and quality of its ingredients, and this is evident in every dish they serve. The chefs work diligently to source the finest seafood, ensuring that each selection on the menu is fresh and sustainably caught. The sushi and sashimi options are vast and diverse, featuring a delightful range of textures and flavors.
The sushi platter I ordered was nothing short of perfection. Each piece was expertly crafted, with the delicate balance of rice, fish, and seasoning that only an experienced sushi chef can achieve. The melt-in-your-mouth toro (fatty tuna) and rich, buttery uni (sea urchin) were particular highlights, showcasing the chefs' commitment to quality.
The sashimi, too, was a sensory delight. From the silky, tender slices of hamachi (yellowtail) to the bold, briny notes of ikura (salmon roe), each morsel was an explosion of flavor. The presentation was a work of art, as the colorful arrangement of sashimi was adorned with intricate garnishes and served on an elegant platter.
The restaurant's beverage selection is equally impressive, boasting a wide array of Japanese sake, beer, and tea. The knowledgeable staff is more than happy to recommend the perfect pairing to enhance your meal.
The service at Umi Ka Shin is impeccable, with attentive and courteous staff ensuring that your experience is nothing short of extraordinary. They are well-versed in the menu offerings and more than willing to assist with recommendations, catering to dietary preferences and restrictions with ease.
In conclusion, Umi Ka Shin is a shining beacon of traditional Japanese cuisine. It may not be an omakase restaurant, but it is a delightful experience that should not be missed. With its commitment to quality, freshness, and artful presentation, Umi Ka Shin has truly mastered the art of sushi and sashimi, leaving diners eager to return for another taste of Japanese...
Read moreI’ve been to this place 7 or 8 times?? Discovered them via Instragram. Tried it, LOVED it and even joined their RM500 get credit member program. I LOVEEE their uni and ikura! The yummiest Ikura and freshest uni I’ve ever eaten. The sashimi quality is consistently good. Pricing is high but I’m willing to pay for the freshness of the food I put into my mouth.
Yesterday I went for a meal and saw they have the Uni promo. The server mentioned if I want to get the promo uni price, I have to give a 5 stars review and post a story first. It feels abit like they are using this for 5 stars review. I don’t mind, cause I do genuinely loved this place. But I am rewriting my review because of incident below..
The main reason I post this because of the unpleasant experience at the bill payment time. When I told I have membership, the staffs said I didn’t mentioned earlier I have membership. I was abit taken aback at the way they handled this. As he mentioned if I take uni promo I cannot use my membership discount. I was like then okay then can we split the bill then? Uni promo u don't give member discount, then he say cannot cause original price of the uni was very expensive and it was such a good deal for me already. 2 adults and 2 tods came up to Rm700+ bill, not omakase but pretty generous bill amount also.
Also it could be due to us returning a hard, unpalatable, sour, undercooked Fish chasiu ramen (which they used a new fish, 20kg ?tuna fish) while usually we are used to the yellowtail softer texture fish (which is the regular fish they used for their ramen). They replaced us with another bowl of the softer fish after our feedback. Perhaps lose money here already so cannot give me discount?
For a restaurant that charges a premium price, this experience wasn't very pleasant and it makes me think twice -do I really wana go back to this restaurant again?? The staffs were not well versed with their menu & update customers in the changes in ingredients. It feels as if it was my fault for the fish ramen and the uni discount/membership incident, but could be resolved if the staff members were...
Read moreI quite like the food here, maybe one or two fell short. Shima aji and their buri is really bad, cannot order. The rest seems ok. Nice comfy place too.
The downside is their membership is a load of fake stuff. It says spend RM500 and you’ll get RM500 next round. It’s not clearly stated and the staff is dam defensive. Almost make me wanna report them to consumer rights or whatever regulator that can make them learn this is false advertising. The membership also can’t be used now, only next visit. And again when I asked if I’m member I’ll get RM500 off for spending RM500? They say no only 10% off. So WTH is this spend RM500 free RM500? Unclear terms to deceive customers. NOT clear, NOT prominent terms and conditions. Pissed me off too when the staff explain so poorly & like want to argue with me when their terms are unclear.
Update: The reply by management is NOT what the staffs had said. I checked the QR terms and conditions it did not mention how the RM500 credited. I asked staff if I spend RM500 today I can get next visit? They say no only can be member and get 10% off. I asked again they said no can’t get RM500. I asked so why put here when no matter how many times I come I spend RM500 and I still won’t get it? Only get the 10%? Either the T&C is not prominently stated or clear enough or the staff is giving me wrong info. No where in the QR mention how to get & how to use it. So I gave up and couldn’t be bothered & felt turned off/cheated so I didn’t even want...
