Rumah Makan 100 Tahun sits on Jalan Ujong Pasir, just a stone’s throw from the Portuguese Settlement. A century-old Malay wooden house, dressed with antique furniture and nostalgic trinkets, has been turned into a restaurant. The place feels like someone’s grandmother’s home, with cross-legged seating upstairs, batik cloth on tables and retro songs drifting through the air. It’s part dining room, part museum, part Instagram bait.

The menu keeps going. Kampung classics like daging salai masak lemak and nasi goreng kampung. Thai staples. Even oysters drowned in cheese. One table might be digging into asam pedas sotong, while another goes for butter chicken or Western chops. The kitchen doesn’t hide its ambition: feed everyone, all at once. It mostly works, with smoked meats rich and fiery, butter prawns crisp and sweet, banana pudding oddly addictive. But sometimes it doesn’t: the fried rice comes out bland, tomyam sugary, chicken chop a throwback best forgotten.

Service is warm, sometimes too eager, sometimes forgetful. Orders go missing. Drinks get delayed. Food comes slow on busy nights. Prices swing from fair to eyebrow-raising: RM24 for petai tilapia or nasi ayam sotong feels steep, especially with street parking and no air-conditioning. But then again, tourists don’t come here for bargains. They come for the setting, the photos, the kampung fantasy packaged neatly in wood and nostalgia.

Reviews are split like chilli in oil. Some call it the best in Melaka, swear by the masak lemak and the sambal, promise to return. Others shrug, saying “viral place, food normal.” Families praise the portions and the atmosphere. Cynics grumble about karaoke volume and watery drinks.

In the end, Rumah Makan 100 Tahun is less about food than it is about mood. A heritage house turned stage, where diners slip into a version of old Melaka that may or may not have ever existed. Some dishes deliver, some disappoint, but the charm of the place lingers longer than the taste...

Sure! Here's a 300-word review for Asam Pedas Tetel at Restoran Rumah Kedai 100 Tahun, Melaka:

Asam Pedas Tetel at Restoran Rumah Kedai 100 Tahun – A Heritage Feast in Every Bite

Nestled in the heart of Melaka, Restoran Rumah Kedai 100 Tahun offers not just a meal, but a taste of history. Housed in a beautifully preserved century-old shophouse, the ambience alone sets the stage for an unforgettable culinary experience. But it’s their Asam Pedas Tetel that truly steals the spotlight.

This dish is a bold, flavorful interpretation of a Melakan classic. The broth strikes the perfect balance—fiery yet tangy, with layers of spice that unfold with every spoonful. The heat is assertive but not overpowering, allowing the tamarind’s sourness and the herbs’ depth to shine through. What makes it unique is the tetel—succulent beef trimmings with just the right amount of fat and gelatinous texture, giving the dish an incredibly rich mouthfeel.

The portion is generous, served bubbling hot in a clay bowl that keeps it warm till the last bite. Paired with fluffy white rice and a side of ulam and sambal belacan, it’s a complete, soul-satisfying meal. The meat is tender, absorbing all the aromatic goodness of the gravy, making each bite an explosion of traditional flavor.

Service is warm and welcoming, adding to the homey charm of the restaurant. Locals and tourists alike fill the space, all drawn by the promise of authentic Melakan cuisine served with heritage flair.

If you’re visiting Melaka, the Asam Pedas Tetel at Restoran Rumah Kedai 100 Tahun is a must-try. It’s not just food—it’s a celebration of Melaka’s culinary legacy, served with...

I found this hidden gem in Melaka coincidentally from Google Map, saw the picture of nasi lemak with water spinach, which is the specialty of Melaka nasi lemak The location is just near the gate of Portuguese settlement in Melaka. The house looked so authentic old but maintained the cleanliness. The staff is friendly, and the ordering system is so user-friendly by screening the QR code and direct payment which offer to use TnG, visa/Mastercard, or e-banking. The house looks old, but the POS system is so modern. Food serving is the most exciting. They are so tasty and authentic, taste like home foods which are cooked by aunties. We feel like having dinner at a village while we are at the town of Melaka. We eat nasi lemak with water spinach, fried rice with petai and smoked duck, both are simple and tasty. The drinks are nice too. The staff is so friendly who greet us when we arrived and said goodbye when we are leaving. They have a very good hospitality. You should try to eat inside the house, they got 2 rooms for group and also surau/prayer room is provided. The price is so affordable. My nasi lemak is only rm6, fried mushrooms is also rm6. Drink is...

Full score for this quaint little kampung house in Melaka. It is recognised as one of the unique restaurants by the tourism authority. With all that said, the food still outshines the accolades for this place. All the dishes taste authentic, somewhat to what an experienced matriarch would have prepared for her family. Having tried their buttermilk dish, I can say it's the best I have tried before. Adding to your taste pallet, it's nicely paired with nasi Lemak and the spicy sambal. It's the highlight of my meal here. Apart from their traditional dishes, they do serve fusion western cuisine. What stands out is the cheese oyster. It was out of place in a traditional malay setting menu. But boy was it good. The combination of the cheese, sweet chilli mix and a sprinkle of Himalaya salt provides the burst of flavours in your mouth. It's another must try here. Overall, all praises to this place and special mention to our server, a malay chap which is cheerful, lightens the mood, asks about the food and being highly attentive. Highly recommended place for a hearty dinner in historic Melaka.
