If you ever happen to go to Raub - most likely for durian - for a day tour or two, there are few popular places for Hainan tea where people converge for a good cup of tea for breakfast and even afternoon tea. For me, this town is my favourite stop to buy confectionery as well as refuel the soul on my way home.
It is located on one of Raub's main road and you'll hardly miss it. The shop retains most of the original facades and interior. People from all ages and races (but mostly Chinese) are a common sight while eating here. ◾As I mentioned, their Hainan tea is one of the best in town and I'd say better than most of those I've ever tried in KL. Not that I was saying that there isn't a good one in KL but for me, theirs are good. Silky smooth ◾Chee Cheong fun - I won't say that their CCF is good but this is the permanent fixture in the shop together with their homemade confectionery should you decide to chew on something while having your tea. ◾Trays of baked pastries are placed on the counter - take your pick among the kaya puff, curry puff, char siew pastry or siew bao, egg tart, Portuguese tarts and recently, their own tau sar peah. ◾half boiled eggs and toasts are available too!
Nothing beats a good teh si (kosong) to recharge the body. They do not have a good ordering and paying system like Thong Kee in Bentong so sometimes it can get a bit confusing (order). I've come here so often, even the boss knows what I'm going to order the moment I step into the shop. Just recently, I've noticed that they have brought in the net generation to start helping in this shop. My latest cup of teh si didn't taste like what the boss used to make but hopefully they'll get it...
Read moreToday reached Raub Around 9am but came this coffeeshop later to make sure their freshly basked buscuits are ready. Food to try, their nasi lemak strong taste of santan and warmly packed. Chee cheong fun, delicious sauce. Not forgetting their freshky baked buscuits like kaya puff, bbq chicken, tarts. A must tapao. Environment, very old skool with 8 layers window panes. Mini floor tiles. Old but cleanly kept. You see all kind of races, malay, chinese and indian. As they dont serve pork. Which is back in the old days, true...
Read morenice food and owner is friendly. not many ppl when i was three, probably off-peak hour i guess.
nasi lemak is nice (abovr average), pastries are great (i prefer their version of kaya kok than the famous one in Ipoh; tarts i din eat, my wife says they r very tasty; chicken floss puff is basically siew pow with chicken fillings), chee cheong fun is so-so (im accustomed to Penang version with thicker sweet sauce and without tau pok), kopi-c ok.
definitely will visit again if i come over to...
