Chang Jiang White Coffee is one of the most popular beverages that originated from Ipoh. During one of our Grab rides to Ipoh Night Market, our driver also recommended that we visit a Chang Jiang outlet to savour their “White Coffee”. During this visit to Ipoh, under the recommendation of our church friend, we headed to the Chang Jiang White Coffee outlet at Kin Loong Valley. After visiting this outlet, we strongly recommend a visit to Kin Loong Valley while you’re visiting Ipoh Malaysia and here’s why…
Chang Jiang is actually the originator of the “white coffee” in Ipoh. It started the founder, Mr Kong Wing Kheong who trialed many roasting methods to attain the aroma of the white coffee that we taste today. The new coffee that Mr Kong created then, was lighter in colour than the conventional coffee. Hence, he named it “white coffee“. His son, Mr Kong Kin Loong, took over the reigns and mechanised the process to produce white coffee on a large scale. His efforts to enhance the brand and its offerings has brought white coffee to become the mainstream coffee that it is in Ipoh today.
Hence, you would know by now that Kin Loong Valley is actually named after the 2nd generation Mr Kong. The original location of Chang Jiang White Coffee Kin Loong Valley is actually known as Tasik Cermin or, Mirror Lake. The entire Kin Loong Valley is so picturesque and we’re so glad that this venue was recommended to us!
Once inside, we were blown away by the location of Chang Jiang White Coffee at Kin Loong Valley. The restaurant itself is located RIGHT NEXT to the edge of the valley! There are 2 main sections of seats at Chang Jiang White Coffee Kin Loong Valley. The first section upon entry is not that impressive – though you can see the side of the valley through the gaps and windows. But if you venture further into the bigger seating space next door, that is where you want to be seated. If you can snag one of the seats by the streams, that would be probably the best seats in the house...

Read moreReally wanted to leave 2.5 stars cause I'm on the fence for this one. The kopitiam is set in a beautiful location against lovely limestone hills. Lots of great places to take pics for the gram. It's a popular place and quite crowded so you leave your details with the waiter and they call you when a table is ready.
So we gave our details and went to take pics. So far so good. My biggest issue is the service. Don't get me wrong. Most of the staff are pleasant. However, one particular senior waitress somewhat ruined the experience for us. When we were being seated, we asked if we can sit inside. She seemed quite reluctant and told us inside hot, this and that. Please take note that the inside was virtually EMPTY. So many places left. Finally after we insisted, she said okay but kept saying it's hot, don't complain ah and all. By the way, inside is not hot at all. It's actually quite cold, especially if you sit beside the air coolers.
Need to order at the counter, the line is quite long. Wait for food also quite long, but for a popular joint, this is all expected so that's fine. When we get our order, we got the steamed toast instead of regular toast which we ordered. The same waitress from earlier passed by and we wanted to highlight to her. She came, half-heartedly heard me, nodding along then just walked away while I was still talking. I was so shocked! I have never encountered someone so rude before. But again, the other waiters are okay. We highlighted to someone else and they changed the toast for us.
Toast, fried wantons and coffee were all nice. Overall, the place is nice. But here's the thing: I don't mind waiting in line. I don't mind the environment being hot. What I do mind is not being treated with respect. Thank you for listening to...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Kin Loong Valley and had to have the infamous Ipoh white coffee from this cafe. This seems to be a popular spot for locals and tourists as it was pretty packed for the weekend on a very hot humid day.
Highlights of this place for me: Location: Though not within Ipoh city, it is within a reasonable distance to travel by car. Loved the fact that the establishment is nestled within nature; next to a cave and within walking distance from Tasik Cermin 2. Parking: It is shared parking space for visitors of the nearby cave, petting zoo and Tasik Cermin. There are plenty of parking spots but they do get filled up very quickly. Service: Staff members were able to clarify and guide through the menu items that we were unfamiliar with. Ambience and decor: love the rustic & antique decor all around the cafe/ restaurant complementing the timber elements used for the walls, flooring & beams. Noise levels were manageable including when there was live singing just outside the establishment. Accessibility & family friendly: There were no uneven or unlevel flooring, which makes it welcoming to those who have mobility issues or in a wheelchair. When I was there, lots of multi-generational families who were there. They establishment has baby chairs available for younger children. Orders are placed and paid at the cashier. Cash & e-payment accepted. Not sure bout credit cards. Drinks: The white coffee was rich, fragrant and tasty. Totally enjoyed from start till the last drop. Food: Egg tarts were decent, toast was crispy but I was expecting more kaya and fried wantons were decent as well.
It was a pretty good experience that I enjoyed. Definitely worth coming out here for this cafe or when visiting the nearby...
