Love the breezy atmosphere and so airy. But I don’t quite like ordering workflow that required us to pay at a different counter. Well, usually we can pay on the spot after selecting our nasi lemak and “lauk”, since we are already ordering our meal and drink. So… why get the customers to walk further inside the restaurant just to pay the bill?
Here, you need to choose your table first and give them the table number when ordering at the counter. Then carry your food to your table, makan, wait for your drinks to be served, then after finishing, get up again to go further inside the restaurant to pay your bill. I find that very unnecessary.
I had to carry two plates of nasi lemak and squeeze past customers queuing up to order. They barricade the entrance area, making the space coming into the restaurant congested. Wasn’t sure if I was not supposed to use that path but that was the nearest way to our chosen table. I didn’t feel comfortable carrying two plates in my hands walking one big round through all the occupied dining areas. Maneuvering and balancing my plates. lol
Imagine if you come alone, and not able to “chop” your table. And someone else took the table you chose. That happened to us. Haha.
Just thought that the ordering and pay process can be simplified. Order, pay, and eat. And chow terus.
One could easily just forget to pay and walk away. Unintentionally, of course.
Pay later only makes sense if we can order from our table. It was a confusing ordering process.
Food wise just okay. I didn’t quite like the sambal taste. The chili sauce for the lekor was not it. Wrong kind of sauce, more like sambal. And they only serve chicken thighs for Ayam goreng. So I chose squid sambal. And the sambal was not to my liking.
Would I come back again? Of course. Nice place and the teh tarik was good, though a little sweet. Price wise quite reasonable. About RM 46 for 2 pax with 2 nasi lemak, with kerang and sotong, with two types of lekor, and 2 Teh Tarik. Not bad at all.

Read moreI saw the mixed reviews. And decided to just go for it. Was there about 8.30pm. Only 1 patron there eating. I packed with sotong, Kangkung and fried chicken.
Let’s start with the kacang and fried ikan bilis. They were nice and crispy. The fried ikan bilis was the smaller and usual sized ones. Salty. I liked it. Still had the crunch.
They gave some fried onion. They were thinly sliced and nicely browned. Tasted gooey and was good.
The rice was not fluffy. Had to chew more than normal. Would be nice if it could be fluffier. But then again, I came 1.5 hours before they closed.
The Kangkung was way too big a portion. Tasted good. The stem wasn’t raw and wasn’t too overcooked. Has the crunch.
The sotong sambal, I got it because the guy said it’s spicy. To me, an Indian who enjoy spicy food, it was OK spicy. I found the sotong a bit hard. Or Maybe I was too lazy to chew!
Now the sambal. I only like spicy sambal. Like the Monkey Nasi Lemak near Lorong Kurau, Bangsar.
But Serunai’s wasn’t spicy. It was mild. However, I actually enjoyed it! It was tasty. I actually ate the balance sambal. It had bits of ikan bilis in it. The texture of the sambal was, more like - really garing rendang ikan bilis type. Very yummy.
Sorry to say, to me, the fried chicken tasted like fish meat. It was just fried, so it was warm and all, not been on the shelf long. But it was not juicy or springy at all. More like over cooked and mashed up inside. And it was way too oily. Like you could squeeze the oil off it. They seriously need to change the type of oil they use.
Overall, Nasi lemak was good. So much better than the Owl Nasi lemak they have everywhere these days.
Recommended. I’ll come here again, at an earlier time of the...

Fried Chicken Berempah: Juicy, Tender and Perfectly Cooked
The standout feature of this place is undoubtedly the fried chicken berempah. Each piece is juicy, bursting with flavor, and cooked to perfection. The aromatic blend of spices in the crispy coating makes it a must-try.
Santan Rice and Sambal: Decent but Not Outstanding
The santan rice (coconut milk-infused rice) and sambal are decent. While they complement the meal, they don't steal the show. The sambal could use a bit more kick, but it's still enjoyable.
Tempeh Krispy: A Sweet and Crispy Delight
Don't miss out on the tempeh krispy. These sweet and crispy tempeh bites add a delightful contrast to the meal. They're addictive and provide a unique twist to the traditional nasi lemak experience. If you are a fans of tempeh, you won't be disappointed by this.
Clean and Comfortable Environment
The restaurant's environment is clean and comfy, which enhances the dining experience. However, during scorching hot weather months, an air conditioner would be a welcome addition.
Reasonable Prices
Considering the quality of the food, the prices are reasonable. You'll get value for your money, especially with that flavorful fried chicken.
Unordered Dishes: Ayam Rendang and Cockles
Although I didn't order them, I've heard good things about their ayam rendang and cockles cooked in different style. If you're feeling adventurous, give them a try!
Overall, this place offers a satisfying nasi lemak experience, with the fried chicken berempah stealing the spotlight. Just be prepared for the warmth if you visit during the hot...
