I’ve never been a big fan of Ipoh’s famous chicken floss hor fun. Even after two visits to Ipoh, it always felt rather ordinary to me — either a clear broth or a slightly richer one, and the noodles would vary from flat to slightly thicker, softer or firmer, but nothing that truly stood out.
That changed today at Giggles. This was, hands down, the best chicken floss hor fun I’ve ever had. The broth immediately caught my attention — slightly sweet, yet layered with umami. You could taste the natural sweetness of shrimp shells or prawn heads, combined with the depth of a well-prepared chicken stock. When I asked the owner, he revealed the secret: the broth is simmered for eight hours with shrimp shells and chicken, creating an incredibly rich and flavorful base.
Instead of the usual dry, stringy chicken floss, Giggles serves tender pieces of chicken that are cooked to perfection — not overdone and dry, and certainly not undercooked. Juicy, silky, and full of flavor — I suspect it’s thigh meat. This dish might look simple, but it clearly demands skill, patience, and precision. No wonder it’s the restaurant’s signature.
Now, let’s talk about the kaya butter toast. I’ve had countless kaya toasts in Malaysia and Singapore, and most are forgettable. But this one? Absolutely exceptional. The bread is toasted just right — crisp but not brittle like a chip. The butter is aromatic, rich but never cloying, and perfectly balanced with the sweet, smooth kaya. This harmony matters because if the butter were too heavy and the kaya too sweet, it would feel greasy and overwhelming. Instead, this toast is everything you want: crisp, fragrant, indulgent but clean.
What makes Giggles special is not just the food, but the passion and care that go into every detail. After chatting with the owner, you can truly feel how much thought and dedication he puts into his craft. This isn’t just a meal — it’s a showcase of culinary love and precision.
If you think chicken floss hor fun is boring, this place will change your mind. And don’t leave without trying the kaya butter toast —...
Read morePros: Food was tasty (we had the Eggs Benedict, Salmon, Blackforest cake and Carrot Cake). We really enjoyed ourselves. Menu had extensive choices which would be great to bring friends who might prefer Asian or western style food. Coffee selection has the option to choose oat milk without any additional charges. Since my friend was celebrating her birthday, I called in advance and enquired if they hv a candle and lighter (as it would not be polite nor fair to bring a cake from outside given that this place sells cake). They kindly confirmed they do have and asked me if I would like to reserve any of their cakes in advance as some were selling out fast. They kept my cake choices aside and served with the candle at the end of our meal. Comfortable and clean place. Amazing professional service by their staff. Appreciate their kindness, responsiveness and support to accommodate my request :). Safe as well. It was raining when we arrived and we left our umbrellas outside. When we were leaving, our umbrellas were still safely there.
Cons: Noise level can get a bit loud as its kids friendly but still manageable. (Free) Parking is a challenge on Sunday morning, but there was an open space paid parking nearby with ample parking. Not sure about weekdays. Noticed by afternoon, as we left the place around 3pm plus, plenty of...

Being relatively new, you can see the interior is quite 'bare' (for now) and the tables are without numbers. Brightly lit, clean and looking fresh, spacious and can house more than 50 diners.
I tried their nasilemak while my wife had the eggs Benedict. The food is well prepared and tasty. The nasilemak comes with a piece of succulent fried chicken that's really crispy and fragrant. The sambal is unique that's made with dried shrimp 🦐 which makes the meal more interesting 🤔🤤. There's also crispy anchovies, peanuts, a hard-boiled egg and slices of cucumbers. 👍👍👍
The eggs Benedict comes with 2 poached eggs, sweet onions, baby spinach, slices of chicken ham placed on a sourdough bread accompanied by melted cheese and mayo. 😘😍😋
Overall, this place has great potential and worth a try. Service is good and you're welcomed here with a...
