This is my third visit to the restaurant, and by far the worst and the most disappointing one.

I have reserved a table for 4 pax in the afternoon of the same day to have dinner at 8pm - but we wanted to order their ala-cartes since the decision was spontaneous and we didn't want the omakase courses. Whatsapped them, and the management told us to pre-order our meals/dishes as they are understaffed on 17/9. We then gave our orders in and have arrived there 10 minutes before 8pm, with the other guest arriving at 810pm.

We thought we could start getting our dishes by then (note: if you order ala carte mains/rice bowls, they start with 2 appetizers before the main, with a miso soup and dessert in the end) since we have 'pre-ordered' way earlier, but no, that was not the case. By 810pm, I have informed the waiter to inform the kitchen to have our dishes out, but by 830 pm, we still have not rececived anything yet, not their appetizers, nothing. There is no informing from the kitchen's end as well, and I believe if I don't ask or check, no one cares to attend to our table (note: there are only 2 ala-carte tables for the night including ours). When enquired, male waiter of the night told us that the kitchen is still preparing, this is unreasonable for us, because firstly we have pre-ordered the dishes, and hence we expect the dishes to come on time, and if not on time, within a reasonable time frame. Isn't the whole objective of pre-ordering is to get food prepared earlier, given the circumstances of being 'understaffed'. When asked the second time again, male waiter mentioned and explained that "actually here when we prepare the dishes, it will take some time, and also because the kitchen is also managing a big group today (referring to the big group of omakase guests about 5-6 patrons), and that's why..." - Instead of receiving an apology, this sounded like an insincere excuse, from a customer's perspective.

By 830 pm, checked with another female waiter of the night and she mentioned that the food/dishes is still on the way/chef is still preparing, although she sounded a little more apologetic and sincere with similar explanation (big group (Omakase patrons) + need time to prepare), we were already feeling 'hangry' by then. By 835 pm, we received the first appetizer and then subsequently the second appetizer after 10 minutes. We are only able to have our mains/dons by 9pm, which was approximately an hour after our arrival at the restaurant (with only one ala carte table around). The maki for sharing only arrived after we have finished our maindishes at around 915-20pm, after a second reminder/chasing.

All in all, this is unreasonable and not acceptable in our opinion, because firstly, we have pre-ordered the dishes, secondly, the time management of having the dishes out is not planned properly, and thirdly it makes us feel as if the kitchen is prioritising more on its Omakase patrons than patrons who ordered ala carte dishes, given the waiting time of an hour for a few main dishes (mainly dons, a chicken, a maki and a steak). If the dishes are offered as part of the menu and the patrons ordered them, they should all be prioritised regardless of whether the guests are Omakase patrons or under a 'big' or 'small' group, they should be regarded equally.

In summary - the food was good (albeit not as great as I had the last visit - rice was on the hard end) but given the severe lack in service that night, it has pretty much ruined everyone's experience at the table, not to mention that it was the first visit for my friend.

Hopefully, they can improve their service management in the future. But for the time being, we will not...

I wanted to give a 5 star but there was some disappointment, please read till the end.

Note: This is an Asian fusion restaurant, please come here with the right expectations and open mind.

We are here for the rice bowl. We started with their Chawanmushi that comes with our rice bowl. It's different from what I had before and they have a special gravy to it.

I had the Anago & Engawa Ikura Don. I highly recommend this because both fish are super soft. The fish was a little bit fatty which taste so good! Do ask them for the pickled wasabi or fresh wasabi, it goes so well with the fish! It also comes with pickles (I think so because it tastes like it) and pickled radish, so it adds that little acidity to the dish and neutralizes the saltines a little.

The rice is very well seasoned (not the usual seasoning with vinegar but they use asam jawa) but I find it salty and that saltines overpowered the fish. So my advice is, try and enjoy the fish first instead of digging in straight. Oh yes, I added 10g of uni for taste, that's RM 40 additional.

We also have LUX Assorted Sashimi Don and Assorted Sashimi Don, the difference between the two is Lux comes with uni, unagi and some other sashimi that I can't name them.

The Wagyu Aburi Don was not up to expectations. In the menu they wrote A4 Wagyu but what was served was M4 instead. Before it was served, we were not told that they will be serving M4. And when we are paying the bill, they are charging us the rate in the menu.

So A4 Wagyu rice bowl was supposed to be RM 100 but after mentioning this to them, they gave us a RM 20 price cut to it. So I'll let you decide if it is worth the exchange. Hence, if you wanted to try this next time, do check before ordering.

They also serve dessert as well, it is on the house. Oh yes, about the portion, we had 4 bowls for 3 of us.

They are short of staff, so you need to make reservations and pre-order the food before you come. I think if you walk in, they might not have the varieties listed in the menu.

Overall very nice ambiance, not an overcrowded place (at least it is during lunch on the weekend). I enjoyed their rice bowl and highly...

They literally redefined ‘creativity’ and the name ‘chipta’ is extremely befitting.

My dining experience here really humbled me. It made me question but also re-learn my palate to enjoy Omakase with local ingredients.

This is probably the first ever full course which I was able to appreciate every single dish, without complaining or thinking something is off

I have never experienced such intense yet delicate and refined flavour profiles ever in my life.

I will include pictures but honestly if I were to describe each and every dish I’d probably fail to do justice.

Utilising local produce such as cermai (I ate so many as a child and I know not many people know of its existence, but to see it used and presented in such a setting really left me in awe), tuhau and bambangan (YES! From Sabah!)paired with sushi.. and the coconut cheese slices, the TemuPauh (Mango ginger) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY buah kulim… it was a remarkable meal.

Everything was perfection… including the Chilli Cinnamon sorbet for pre- dessert and the Kantan ice cream. The sushi rice… wow. It’s really different but so good?!

The place really challenged my understanding and relationship with food.

I really haven’t gotten over the whole meal and it’s been almost 24 hours😂🤣

Please do NOT go if you’re expecting traditional omakase - which you can get almost anywhere else. Only come here if you think you’re ready to experience something different.

We were seated near a group of expats and they said that they have been there more than 20 times in the last year. Told us they travelled alot and have been to many Michelin starred restaurants- but they still come back to Chipta because nothing could beat it.

Do I believe them? Definitely 💯

Thank you so much for the mind-boggling experience. I love...

tl; dr.: Oh my absolute bloody god, this place is panty dropping amazing. A very good friend brought us here for a lunch date, and she was absolutely spot on. It's Japanese omakase with a slight Malaysian slant, and while on the pricier side, it was absolutely worth the money. The produce were top notch, treated with respect, and delicious, while the service was light touch but attentive, which was great because I wanted to hang out with my friend, while the other girls wanted to take selfies and hang out with their phones). I tend to love chef's tables, and sitting at the counter allowed me to watch the chef's intricate knife work (she was so young and so very talented; I guess because of her gender and age she was largely ignored by the uncles who were there for lunch, but paid attention when her male colleague spoke, which enraged me). Each dish also came with detailed explanation by either the waitstaff or the chef, and they were able to answer questions that a food pedant kepo like me liked to ask. A nice touch was the bathroom, which has quite posh soaps! It seems unimportant, but to me it shows that the establishment has actually thought through all the different things that goes into the dining experience. My only quibble of the place was the lack of wines by the glass that were available, and on the whole the wine list was rather short and disappointing. This was the only area that the staff were less knowledgeable about; having said that Malaysians aren't particularly into their wines, so it's not unexpected. If you're not ready to splurge on the omakase, the flounder don comes highly recommended.
