Generally we had a good experience. We were recommended by friends. The food was good and not too expensive. The atmosphere was busy and lively, sometimes noisy but good. BUT the service from the staff was rather poor! Why? I will tell you. None, except 1, of the staff were friendly or helpful. All were busy and just doing their job. The first guy didn't seem to want to recommend dishes to us! Our last dish was the dessert - wor pang. Imagine our surprise when some of us took our first bites. It was at room temperature! How can? The rest of the food was good and we didn't want to end it poorly. So we called the guy over to tell him so. He said something and then just walked away! We got another guy and he said it cannot be. We asked for a discount and he walked off! Next we talked to a lady staff who probably didn't understand us. Then this lady staff, who had served us earlier, came over. After hearing us and our request for the 'wor pang' to be heated up and re-served to us, she took the plate to the kitchen. Soon another guy came back with the plate, unheated and placed it back on the table. We told him to help us with re-heating the food but he just refused! How la like that!!! After some discussion, we decided to finish the 'cold wor pang' (since we are paying for it), paid the full bill and left, without any complaint or scene. And so, to be fair - the food was good. The prices reasonable. The atmosphere just like a popular Chinese restaurant. But our ending was very disappointing! Actually the 'problem' is easily solvable. Wor pang has to be served and eaten fresh from the kitchen - hot or at least warm, not at room temperature. I guess the staff that evening were just not up to the mark. Will we come again? Maybe. Maybe not. It is now up to the management to act, or not act. We have tried to be fair. This was a few evenings ago. This is not unthinking...

I've had dinner at this restaurant at least once in every month for the past 5 years. The food is mostly great depending on the chef, and great value as the dishes were decently priced and the portions were huge.

However, the good news stopped recently when we had dinner yesterday and got a shocked when the bill came. The price of the fish was increased and went up by more than double. We can still accept if they raise the price by maybe RM5 a plate but this was excessive, from RM40 a plate to RM90. We didn't look at the menu before ordering as we are familiar with the prices having ordered the dishes for years. The reason or excuse that was given is they used a different type of fish. The fish tasted the same and they shouldn't have just charged more than double and say the type of fish is different as we had ordered this fish many times throughout the years and it's the same fish, and they now don't use the same fish to cook anymore?

I am not sure what other dishes will see a price increase after this. I'm not against price increases but increasing the price by more than double is ridiculous. Say if a dish is priced at RM40, if it is increased to RM45 or maybe up to RM50, it's still acceptable but to RM90 which is more than 2X is not right.

This would likely be my last time visiting this restaurant. Yesterday on Saturday, only the ground floor is open while the first floor is closed. I presume the first batch of old regular diners who came last week had got a shock with the price increases which resulted in reduced customers. The bill of the dish which shows the price increase is attached here for...

Time : CNY dinner, February 2019

Great food, generous portion. We had another family reunion dinner on the 7th day of CNY. We ordered set menu for 45 pax, four tables altogether. Passed by this place so many times without bothering to check it out. How could we...

12 pax to our table and still there was enough food to go around. Every dish was delicious with fresh ingredients. Boy, were we surprised. Our favorite dish was the excellent suckling pig. Crispy, almost crunchy skin with tender and tasty meat. Two of our other tables were more health-conscious (rather, self-conscious) and gave us their suckling pig heads and these were devoured with great relish and gusto. Me and my wife had a couple of slices each, they were practically forced on our plates and they tasted really good.

The dragon tiger grouper was excellent too. Prawns were yummy, other dishes did not disappoint, blah, blah, blah...

The restaurant was jam packed when we were there.

Staffs were friendly and helpful but the place was a little short-handed then. Parking space aplenty with the parking lot located just directly opposite. Parking fee should be RM 4 for first 2 hours which should be more than enough.

Should try to book a table earlier for festive season. We booked our tables 3 weeks ahead of CNY and we did not really get to choose the date, we just took what was available. They were fully booked for most days during the CNY period.

We are definitely coming back here again when things return to normal.

Highly...

Gold Dragon City, a Chinese restaurant with room to roam. This place is so spacious it boasts two full floors. And while they had a few files lurking around, they’ve cleaned house since. No espionage here, just great food. Now, let me spill the soy sauce on the clientele. It’s mostly the seasoned generation, the elders who’ve honed their taste buds over the years. You know a place is legit when it’s got the elder seal of approval. Their collective nod of satisfaction practically echoes through the dining room. Now, onto the star of the show, the onion chicken. It’s not just chicken; it’s a tangy, fresh-to-the-tongue revelation. Each bite is like a symphony of flavors dancing in your mouth. It’s so good; you’ll want to order it to-go for your taste buds’ encore performance. And let’s not forget the asam fish. It’s not just warm to the stomach; it’s a full-on cozy embrace. It’s like a culinary warm blanket on a chilly evening, in fish form. In the grand scheme of things, Gold Dragon City is like that wise old dragon, guarding a treasure trove of culinary delights. It’s outstanding, no doubt. But be warned, young wallet warriors, it might be a bit too pricy for your rookie coin pouches. So, gather your experienced foodie comrades and prepare for a taste bud adventure that’ll make you feel like you’ve traveled to the heart of China itself, without ever leaving your table. Cheers to good eats and grand tales!

Decided to come based on a recommendation from a friend. Got seated upstairs on a Saturday night - not a venue to come to if you have seniors with you, as having a conversation is challenging. Noisy environment. Understaffed. Food seems overpriced for the quality. Ordered several dishes based on what the head server recommended. Pigs tendon - RM90 (I think that's what it's called in English) - interesting, tasted a bit like sea cucumber but firmer. Brown Gravy that came with it was not memorable. Assam Tilapia - RM85 Fish was fresh but the gravy was just bad. Coloured water, no taste of assam at all. Steamed Village Salted Chicken Pieces of chicken were pathetic. All boney, meat was tough. I love Kampung chicken, but this was just not prepared well. Lots of watery gravy (seems to be the running theme with the food here), tasted ok. Kinda like chicken soup with strong rice wine and vinegar taste. Some funky veggie - also recommended by the server. Presentation was meh, tasted like sliced pieces of a broccoli stem to me. Their specialty apparently. The tofu was my favourite 🤣 Braised tofu with thick gravy - can eat a whole bowl of rice. Rice is RM1.50 per small bowl. Tea is RM2 per pax. They also charge Service charge and Tax. Personal opinion : For a total of RM345, I could've gone to Loong Foong nearby for tastier food and a more satisfying experience.
