Literally just found out about this place. They were operating in O&S for 30 years before moving into their own shop 11 years ago.
Comfortable dining as there’s air-cond and I appreciate the tint on the glass windows and doors so it’s not too glaring inside. Space is quite compact so during peak hours / days, there might be a slight wait but their service is very fast so tables turnover is also fast.
Here’s what we tried:
▪️Ah Choon’s Signature Prawn Noodle (RM13.90) Add Pork Ribs 3 pcs (RM9) Add Abalone Slices 4 slices (RM9) ▪️Penang Lor Cham Th’ng ▪️Penang Kuey Teow Th’ng (RM12.90) ▪️Penang Lobak Combo Set (RM19.90) ▪️Penang Prawn Paste Chee Cheong Fun (RM7.90) ▪️Dessert Soup (RM4.50) ▪️Penang White Nutmeg with Plum (RM7.90) ▪️Honey Sea Coconut Cincau (RM6.50)
Prawn mee broth was flavourful and aromatic, my mother really likes it. I enjoyed the Lor Cham which is apparently not that easy to find in KL. It’s my first time trying and I thought it was delicious - consistency is not as thick as the KL loh mee as it’s already mixed with the prawn mee broth.
I also enjoyed the simple yet delicious Kueh Teow Th’ng - fish balls were fresh and broth was tasty.
The homemade lobak roll was pretty good too.
The sea coconut cincau was refreshing and a good ‘wash-down’ after...
Read moreI’ve ordered the curry chee cheong fun, fried popiah, pandan chicken and the blue pea flower tea with lemon.
First of, the Blue Flower Tea Lemon was ordered cold. But somehow 90% of the drink is hot with a small bunch of ice cubes above. The drink did not even taste like anything despite costing 4.50. In fact there is so little lemon, that the drink was dark purple instead of light purple. For reference, blue flower tea lemon should be light purple if there’s actual lemon juice in it due to the acidity. I asked to add sugar and ice. They just added ice. At this point I give up. Why so kiam siap with the flavoring?
The curry chee cheong fun was absolutely tasteless, but at least the chicken taste good. But the curry sauce? Tastes like weak sauce if anything.
The fried popiah was not hand made. I recognized the taste of this and these popiah are store-bought frozen popiah and it was priced around RM11-12 for half a dozen.
The size of the pandan chicken was small. It’s as small as 50% the volume of a chicken McNugget from McDonald’s and costs similarly to the popiah I ordered.
If Penang people actually say this place is good, I don’t want to visit Penang to even try their...
Read moreTo put it simply, it will be my first and last visit to this restaurant. I am even surprised that it deserves any good review. I tried the most basic food of all, that is the Penang Chee Cheong Fun. Even though the Chee Cheong Fun was smooth and nice but I was surprised that they serve such kind of sauce together with it. When I first tasted it, I told myself it was the lasiest way of preparing the sauce. The sauce tasted like a diluted Har Gow bought from those bottled ones from the shelves of the supermarkets. If I knew it would taste like this, I would have done it myself at home. I`ve also tasted their dried curry noodle and prawn mee. It was better than the Chee Cheong Fun but to me, it was just mediocre and nothing to be praiseworthy about it. In conclusion, if I am the around Paramount Garden next time, I will definitely give this...
