Food was good and portions generous. Come when hungry! We tried both Nothern Thali (which had butter chicken for non veg option) and southern banana leaf, paired with chicken 65 and mint tea.
First of all presentation was amazing, love the copper bowls too! The chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked tender but moist, 10/10 would recommend.
Banana leaf triumphed the thali set imo, simply because of its curries and rasam- it was more flavorful. And the thali’s too sweet butter chicken did not help its case. The only thing that should have been that sweet is the Payasam.
Mint tea was a tad too sweet and tea might not have been properly prepared (it caused an allergic reaction), maybe need to be rinsed first. Best mint tea is still Istanbul’s (the restaurant), and if sugar can be served separately in cubes that would have been wonderful.
Now to the service, Avijit was our server and could not have been more attentive. Typically it’s annoying when servers insist you name them but he was exceedingly polite and sincere, and he only did it at the end and only after I mentioned I’d write a review.
The only 4/5 was for the atmosphere. The lack of upholstery led to the noise level being too high which ruined the experience. Would have stayed longer if it were more...
Read moreWe have eaten at India Gate at least 5 times now and can vouch that the food is really very good. The portion is generous, and the food is served quite fast.
-Bamboo Mutton Biryani and Chicken Biryani - the meat is very tender, with aromatic spices that leaves you wanting more. -South Indian Thali - a good spread of vegetables and other side dishes (includes payasam and a sweet). A complete meal. -Idly - Very soft. The dhall and the chutneys that were served with the idly were very tasty. A great way to start the day. -Chicken Varuval and Rogan Ghosh (Mutton) - Tasty, spicy (but not over spicy) and very tender meat (mutton)
Brought my aunt and uncle from Australia and they loved the food as well - The vegetarian and non-vegetarian South Indian Thali, Naan/Chapati, Mutton Chettinad and both sweet and salted lassi.
The decor is lovely, giving a soothing and relaxing ambience and providing a beautiful atmosphere. We were attended to by excellent staff, special mention to Sabij, Arslan and Mahad. They were pleasant, attentive, helpful, provided valuable menu suggestions and ensured that all our dining needs were met. Kudos to you guys and all the other staff as well.
Overall, everything about India Gate is excellent. We will definitely go back to this...
Read moreWe went for dinner after a recommendation for this particular branch. The first impression was that it must have been a nightmare for their electrician when it was fitted out due to the multitude of different colours and lights on the ceiling and walls but it definitely added to the atmosphere and not in a bad way!
Parking around the restaurant is very restricted but they have a valet service for RM5 which I thought is very reasonable and allows you to park up at the front door and drive away the same, perfect when it's raining like it was when we went.
We had butter chicken, which was very tender and well spiced gravy, garlic naan - not too oily or chewy, cauliflower 65 - if only I could get this as a go to snack and a veg. The portions are generous so be careful on the number of dishes you order!
The service was very attentive and we didn't have to wait long for drinks or food. The price was also very reasonable for the quality of food, venue and service.
Definitely somewhere I would recommend for great Indian food as a couple, family or group. As a side note this is a halal restaurant so off to PJ New Town after if you want to have...
