Syed Bistro Petaling Jaya — Restaurant in Petaling Jaya

This place has grown so quickly on me and my husband 😍! We moved to PJ few months ago and this is our go-to mamak place ever since ✨. Here are few reasons why:

ROTI CANAI: Hands down, the best roti canai we have ever had in our lives. Perfect fluffiness, crispy, and curries to go with. They get it right, every single time! 🙌🏻

NAAN SAUCES AND BUTTER CHICKEN: The naan itself is not the best but it’s pretty amazing for the price. However, the dipping sauces, oh my, they are delicious! The channa masala, dhaal and mint chutney is the perfect combination for naan. They also have individual dishes, and their butter chicken is the best we have ever had too! It’s not your usual buttery sweet sauce, it’s just packed with flavours that you keep want to go back to.

BUKHARA BIRIYANI: They claim this as their specialty dish and yes, we agree. The biriyani is super flavourful and the chicken is so tender and juicy! The fruit acar it comes with is also super good, we love a good biriyani.

Other food options are average, especially the fried rice and noodle options. But for the location, their price is unbeatable. Two of us will go and have a comfortable meal within RM30 and sometimes even RM20. Drinks are standard, and I like the fact that they have cutting option (smaller version) for hot drinks, suitable for a light refreshment. Service is really really quick, they will not keep...

I used to come here in 2019 as I have classes over the weekend in the nearby area. As i returned again here in 2024, some changes took place. The service time has gotten bad, slower and not to mentioned the Indonesian waiter always makes a fuss during order. Overheard a few customers order being commented such as “saya nak telur mata tapi taknak telur goyang” and her response was “tu bukan telur mata, tu telur goreng” was rude to me. Also as we ordered masala tea, she informed that the fresh milk was not available so we’re okay with alternative (UHT, any other milk) buy she responded “we only use fresh milk” whereas the day before we just ordered the same with just other milk and fine with it. Hope Syed Bistro management will look into this behavior. Or train them better. Customer may not be always right, but have the rights to be treated with courtesy.

Had dinner there around 21:00hrs. Ordered 2 pieces chapatti and chicken tandoori. Chapatti sauce, the chutney was delicious. Chix tandoori was succulent with its spices and the mint sauce has lovely flavour. Later at around @ 21:30 a group of friends came. Long chats over repeated drink orders and food till 02:15 on Fri, 8th Feb. After saying goodbyes, we dispersed. Stopped by @ 7E in SS2, to get bottled drinks and that was when I discovered my brown wallet missing from my pants pocket. Quickly drove back to Syed Bistro KJ, went to the cashier and was informed, one of the staff found my wallet on the tarmac by the table I sat with my friends. Checked the content of my wallet, everything was intact. Extended my gratitude to the cashier and gave a tip to the honest staff (Indian guy) who found my wallet.
