Breakfast during the day!

Back in the days, mention Kean Fatt and the infamous pork noodle came to mind. For the longest time, the only reason I drove to Kean Fatt in SS3 was for the pork noodle.

But not anymore! Chun Kee Special Hand Pull Smooth Pan Mee is poised to be the star of the restaurant. Wow! The name is already mouthful but the name is exactly what you'd get in the bowl. Yes, both are different food altogether but the inconsistency of the pork noodle - be it opening time or food quality, had made me thought so.

◾Chun Kee Special Hand Pull Smooth Pan Mee - what a long name! The dough was actually rolled into a small ball shape before being systematically pulled and cooked in a big wok of hot water. Personally I prefer the dry style pan Mee over the soup version but the latter was also delicious on its own accord. The chilly sauce also went very well with the silky smooth noodle. Love the crispy anchovies and minced meat which to me, are very important ingredients. ◾Char Siew wantan noodle was praised by the elderly for its QQ texture and tasty sauce. The char siew however was too lean but not touch to chew nonetheless.

Forget about their kopi/teh as it is basically tasteless and a bit astringent. For me, it's just the food and then adjourned elsewhere for...

Truly one of the worst experience I’ve had and they were not even that busy. Was here for lunch and decided to order pork noodles. Told the lady (not the one shown cooking in pics) manning the stall I wanted dry noodles. She told me dont have in an angry tone. Not a pleasant experience. Maybe she’s in a bad mood 🤷🏻‍♂️ ordered 2 large soup noodles. Served in 5 mins.

Pork noodle - served hot, 1st impression small portion with very little toppings as per pics, size, locarion please and that’s a large. Pathetic and overpriced. Soup is bland, innards are chewy and the minced pork is tough, most of the reviews says it’s one of the best in town 🤦🏻‍♂️ really? PM me and I’ll point you to what’s pork noodle.

Assorted biscuits - after eating still hungry .. bought RM14.40 worth of biscuits to fill me (and my friend) up.

Place is without AC but surprisingly not hot when seated. Parking is a nightmare here. Good luck. There’s a hand pulled pan mee stall which I’m tempted to try. Will be back to try pan mee. No pork noodle...

Came here for the mee hoon kueh, below are my humble verdicts

  1. Lousy queuing system, you have to queue to place your order even though you dine in, but not like you have to carry your own order, they will send to your table, so why don’t just take down ppl order instead of letting everyone queue for so long.

  2. the guy take our order said hand torn mee hoon kueh is finished, then later on allow me to order 2 hand torn mee hoon kueh after I said I come for the hand torn mhk. The lady is still making hand torn mhk and he don want to let me order hand torn mhk, but later on the patron behind me have no issue order 2 hand torn mhk, so what is his intention ? I dono.

  3. random serve the order. People came later than me get their order first and we have to go to the stall and remind them again only able to get our order done.

Taste wise : ok, texture is chewy as it’s hand torn. Price : a bit pricey as the ingredients are just Sdn Bhd, so little minced pork like few biji only. I add an egg so it’s...

This seems like the very old school-style 𝐏𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐞 where the kneading of the noodle goes through two stages. I noticed that after the flour is first mixed, small amounts of the dough are pinched out, rolled into balls and soaked briefly in a warm and diluted flour slurry. (I suspect this ‘par-boil’ gives the noodle extra bounce). Then only is it removed, stretch between thumbs and tossed immediately into a huge pot of boiling water to cook - this stretching gives the noodle it’s unique shape. The resultant noodle is perfectly al dente, elastic and silky smooth. We tried both the dry and soup version (complete with the traditional condiments of anchovies, minced and slice lean pork, shiitake mushrooms, kau kei leaf) and enjoyed them very much. At RM8 a serving, it makes quite a satisfying light lunch. It’s no wonder, this old kopitiam is often crowded with regular patrons! Did I mention that the sambal belachan is excellent?
