'I Will Always Love You' by Bon Jovi was playing from the speakers as I pushed the door open to enter Mean Mince, an American concept restaurant serving burgers, sandwiches, milkshakes and other dishes in Mutiara Damansara.
Chef Min who studied in culinary and has working experience locally and abroad, has decided to open up Mean Mince to serve hearty food to the meat-loving people. His creation, deep fried burger, has beaten the likes of MyBurgerLab and Define:Burger during My Town Burger Fest in 2019 - the very reason of this visit.
◾MM Deep Fried Burger RM23.90 - Snugly wrapped in special bread dough is a 125g Mean Mince's patty with a choice of either beef or chicken, nestled with caramelised onions, and topped off with a healthy helping of melty mozzarella cheese. The patty was so good and juicy that the jus spilled out with each bite. Excellent stuff! ◾Patty Melts RM27.90 - the sandwich bread was grilled with cheese; in-house chicken (or beef) served with pickled onions and tomato salsa. The grilled cheese added a good savory touch to this chicken sandwich. ◾Chilli Cheese Fries RM18.90 - served on stainless steel platter are a bed of fries topped with Bolognese style chicken and melted cheese. A hit with the young ones and I couldn't resist taking some. ◾Jalapeño Poppers RM17.90 - Breaded jalapeño peppers stuffed with spicy cream cheese. For about RM3 a piece, it was on pricey side.. I made better version. ◾MM SliderS RM23.90 - 3x 40g in-house beef patty in baby buns & melted with american slice cheese, topped with pickled red onions, caramelised onions, and mustard mayo. Easy for the kids to grab. ◾Peanut Butter Milkshake RM15.00 - can't get more American with this classic milkshake. I liked this...
For burger lovers, the Deep Fried Burger alone could warrant a trip to Mean Mince.

Read moreIt's a shame that Google doesn't allow users to leave 6 or 7 star reviews. The food here is absolutely sublime. Had no expectations when my friends and I first walked in but we had our socks blown off just by how good the quality of the food was from the starters right down to the desserts.
We tried all the 3 main burgers - The MM, Deep-Fried & "Monster" Buffalo Chicken. The deep-fried one was especially unique and we don't think we've seen anything quite like it in KL. Although a little oily compared to the other two (it's deep-fried, duh), it is hands-down the most sinfully unctuous burger you'll ever have in an American style diner in KL. Step aside, myBurgerLab - you have some serious competition.
The mozzarella sticks we had as starters were just as glorious (wonderfully crisp on the outside and perfectly melted in the middle) while the deep-fried jalapeno poppers, albeit being something different, was just as good. Both went especially well with the homemade salsa - arguably the best we've had in a very long time. They also don't hold back on the peanut butter shake. It's rich, thick, creamy and everything a shake should be.
All in all, a fantastic dining experience. Very helpful and accommodative staff who are more than happy to give you recommendations if you're a little spoilt for choice - although the streamlined menu would make that pretty much impossible. What I certainly appreciated was that they don't overdo it by including a million different options like most other burger joints. But of the few dishes they have chosen to focus on, boy do they do them all very, very well indeed.
Would highly recommend and I'm certainly coming back...
Read moreIt was a total disappointment.
Poor quality control Our group ordered 2 Motz Burger, one came fine, and one came with burnt onions, I'm talking blackened crispy burnt. When we asked to return the one with the burnt onion, they justified that it was meant to be burnt, 2 waiters came to us and justified that the burger with the burnt onion was the proper standard. When we asked for one to be remade without burnt onion, they said that with the way the chef makes the patty with the onion, it's hard to control if the onion gets burnt or not. The only way we don't get burnt onion is if we ordered some other burger. I get better consistency of quality from roadside ramli burger.
Poor service Drinks (coke float) took quite a while to arrive. When asked to check on the order the first time, the lady waiter (who might be the lady boss) explained that it was taking a while because the kitchen staff had moved on to another table's order and they would circle back to our order later. When asked to check the second time, then they told me they forgot to put my order in. If they told me the proper reason the first time round, it would be easier to be understanding. But to be 'lied' to and fed excuses on top of other nonsense makes it hard to be understanding.
Expensive$$$ I understand that you may have to pay a little more money for places like these, but to pay for RM20-RM30 just for a burger with no sides or anything is too much, especially if they keep telling me their chef/cook can't control if they will burn your onions or not.
Overall, it wasn't worthwhile to come here. I feel that they are just riding on the hype of...
