Restoran Thai Nyonya BBQ, Ara Damansara — Restaurant in Petaling Jaya

This unique Thai BBQ restaurant sits away from the busy commercial area where DoReMi and other restaurants are located. But, it's very easy to find, and parking is not a problem for night dining. Lunch dining is a bit of a chore as there are other offices and shops nearby.

Housed in a corner shoplot, it has seating on the inside of the restaurant and outside as well in an open air area, where you can also have a good preview of the BBQ items being grilled there. The inside seating is comfortable with rectangle and round tables and is comfortably spaced apart.

There's quite a few items on the menu, and it's quite systematically laid out into Soups, Chicken, Vegetables etc. but what drives the crowds to this place, I have noticed, are the set dinners that are very reasonably priced. Also, the special on crabs (3 for RM50) is surely another big attraction as well.

Food is generally above average, very tasty and portions are quite generous. They excel with the Thai food favourites, like Tom Yam, green curry, pad kra pao, egg omelettes, pad thai etc, and the other dishes are there for you to explore.

Staff are all Thai speaking, but there are some Mandarin speakers too, whom I believe are the boss and her daughter. The rest of the staff are OK if you speak a little slower.

Have been to the place twice and haven't been disappointed yet. I see some reviews about how lunch and dinner differ in consistency, I suspect that the cooks are different. So far, I've only had dinner there both times, and it must have been the same cook.

It gets really crowded come dinner time, and even more so during weekends, so either go early, or...

I recently tried Thai Nyonya BBQ at their Ara Damansara branch, and my experience had both ups and downs, but the owner's excellent service truly stood out.

The first time I ordered, I got white rice with petai and tomyam. The tomyam was decent, but unfortunately, the petai seemed rotten, which was disappointing. However, the owner quickly responded to my review and reached out, offering me a free meal of my choice, with only the delivery fee to be paid. I truly appreciated this gesture and decided to give them another try.

For my second order, I chose the BBQ Thai Chicken and Pad Thai. The Pad Thai was great—moist, flavorful, and packed with vegetables. They also followed my request perfectly by excluding nuts, which I appreciated. The BBQ Thai Chicken was delicious, especially with the sauce that complemented it so well. The rice provided had Thai sauce, which tasted really nice and filling.

To complete the meal, I also ordered their Thai Milk Tea, which was creamy and perfectly balanced in flavor—just how I like it!

Overall, while my first experience had some issues, the owner's fast response and commitment to customer satisfaction really impressed me. The second meal was delicious, and I would definitely order from them again. Kudos to the owner for their great service!

I received the worst service ever.

Came here to take out for 8 pax meals. It was during lunch hour. Paid after placing the order. I did not go anywhere, just wait patiently at the restaurant. Waited for nearly 45 mins for the meals.

At first i thought maybe because of peak hour. But all customers came after me all get their foods first. Some even have already finished their meal and still I hadn't received my order yet. Few tables I mentioned was 5-6 pax per table. I can say nearly 4-5 table had already been served.

Kept on asking the update for my order and the waitress (Thai lady) kept on saying hold on or wait. Lost my patience I waited infront of the counter and saw the waitress still packing my order.

Once she passed the order to me I asked, why so long to receive the order. I mentioned most of the table came after meal all received their meal already. She literally smirked and say something in Thai (I don't know whether she curse or what i don't want to know). Did not apologize or anything. She walked off continue her work.

I don't mind if they informed if they have forgotten or missed my order and ask for another few minutes for them to prepare. But the way they handle the situation was so unprofessional and rude.
