Firstly, let me report on the good stuff. -The seafood salad is a must try. They serve it in their own special sauce which is not exactly Thai style - pardon my ignorance but it could be another Indo-Chinese recipe. But it's really appetising. The fish, prawn and cuttlefish is very succulent. I love the condiments corner. I love that the red sambal is good, and the fish sauce is of premium quality. And I love that they are so generous with the corriander leaves.
The not-so-good. The fishy smell of this restaurant can be quite a turn-off. When we were walking towards the restaurant, we could already smell it 2 shoplots away. It's almost like the smell of a fish market. And the smell clings to the clothes you wear. The panel of the walls are "decorated" with Zinc-like metal panels. I don't know why. It's not exactly aesthetic nor helps make the place sound-proof. And it makes me feel psychologically warmer than it should be. The garoupa cooked in porridge tasted like it was overcooked. Perhaps it was not marinated with cornstarch that gives off that extra smooth taste. This is not really bad but a reminder that they take some time to cook and prepare your orders....
Read moreJust had lunch at Xin Teochew Seafood Porridge & Noodle in Petaling Jaya, and let me tell you, it was delicious! I kept it simple with their seafood noodle soup, but simple doesn't mean boring here.
My favourite is their yummy seafood. The prawns were fresh, the cuttlefish had a nice crunch, and the Spanish mackerel made the broth taste even better. But what really made the dish awesome was all the different things you could add yourself. They had everything from spicy chilies to yummy herbs, and it was fun mixing it all up to get the perfect flavor for me.
Xin Teochew seems to have a ton of other seafood options too, if you're feeling extra hungry. They have all sorts of fresh fish like snapper and garoupa, plus some cool stuff like wolf herring fishballs and giant Korean oysters. They even have siham for those who love it!
The price was alright, although expect to pay over RM20 each. But considering how fresh the seafood was and how much you get, I think it's totally worth it!
Overall, Xin Teochew was a great lunch spot. If you're in Aman Suria and looking for delicious, fresh seafood, especially in noodle soup, this place is definitely worth...
Read moreVisited the shop after seeing it in socmed. WOW the crowd! Not sure is it the viral effect or has it always been this way. Anyway luckily the queue is rather fast. We ordered the grouper fish slice and their best seller mixed seafood. The seafood is fresh but the service and whole experience is VERY chaotic.
This is our first time visiting and our honest feedback on our experience.
The queue system is unmanned. We have no idea if someone is going to assign seats for us, or do we need to fight for a table (LOL) because we witness one couple that cut another couple's queue. In the end when it was our turn, we flagged a waitress to see if we could take the (empty) table at the back.
The ordering system is manual and you need to place order with the waitress. Again - chaotic. Eventho we placed our order earlier than the tables next to us, we realise that those tables are getting their order sooner than us. Once we highlight this to the waitress, then only we get our food and drinks, together.
Verdict - we both find the soup taste is ok-ish, not amazing. Unlikely to...
