Ho Kee is my pick for the healthiest and heartiest chicken rice in town. Though some may disagree on its authenticity, the final product of this modest joint is appreciable.
The knowledgeable waitresses openly oblige to customers' request for specific chicken cuts. Arrive early, presumably before 12.30 pm before drumstick and thigh cuts have been sold out for the day. All is not lost as the breast cut served is moist and relatively tender. Choices of their oily (yellow) rice or steamed white rice can be had. Even better, their ginger and chili sauces are rich, flavourful and fresh. Their drinks, such as barley and herbal teas, are delicately made too.
Gym-goers and exercise addicts rejoice, the meals here hit your macros with their nutritious and wholesome style of preparation (their 100g serving of chicken breast paired with white rice, for instance). Upon completing the meal, the body will feel light and pleasant. For veggies, their blanched sawi or bean sprout is a steal. It is not unusual to hear requests for white rice and even 'less sauce or oil' to be poured over the chicken.
Diners here are mostly from the working crowd, with some families thrown in between.
In summary, I am willing to go out of the way to Ho Kee for the healthiest and 'feel-good' guilt-free chicken...
Read moreTouted as “one of the best chicken rice in town” 🙃 guess what? I am utterly disappointed.
On a fine sunny day, I drove all the way here to happily try out this “famous” chicken rice gem restaurant. 🙃 never have i ever get so disappointed by “one of the best”.
Deeply questions which aspect do people consider it to be “delicious” here?
In my own humble opinion: The chicken rice is really disappointing. Sure, it does not taste super toxic kind of bad. But considering the fame of this shop vs the food quality, i am giving a 1 star.
Cons: chicken meat tastes VERY DRY. 🙂 rice tastes very dry too. Price is quite high vs quality. (This quality is at the Rm7-7.5 level instead of Rm9) floor is dirty oily. sauce containers are wide open without lid. food taste bland
Pros: Quick in serving food
(May change my review accordingly, the next time i visit 🙏 hopefully there are...
