My first time to tree top and if you like nature and drinking, this is best combi place to go. I would say this is considered an instagramable place for sure.

What i like about this place:

  1. The environment is superb! I went at night and the place was very naturalistic
  2. There are alot of nice spots for you to take photo and post on instagram
  3. Special drinks. They have refreshing drinks if you do not wish to go for alcohol

What is dislike about this place:

  1. The food is a long wait. My spaghetti aglio came first, and only after 20mins (after i finish my food) before my partner’s food arrived. And worse still, disappointing.
  2. One “bao gao liao” staff. Really pity the staff, she take orders, serve food, settle bill, attend to adhoc requests like as if she was the only one in the front of house.

Recommended food:

  1. Spaghetti aglio with layered pork. The spaghetti was fried to perfection, not too mushy and very fragrant. The layered pork is crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
  2. Their special and refreshing drinks. The drink that i ordered (cant rmb the name cos its some weird name) but it comprises of a few different veg like tomato, cucumber etc, combine with mango juice and sprite and finish off with a pandan leaf to bring out the fragrance.

Food to avoid:

  1. Personally ill avoid skewered grilled chicken chop. It was skewered yes and we expect it to be satay size meat but it came in big chunks. Just imagine the whole chicken chop cut into 3 pieces, its still big. And they never provide fork and knife. I tried not to disturb the poor fella to get the cutlery as she was already very overwhelmed. Secondly, the meat was abit dry and not much taste. Rather disappointed with the long wait.

But overall, i rate it 4/5. If u like nature and drinking, this would not disappoint you. Oh one more thing, they serve tuak (native rice wine). I did not try but this is something that I would in my next visit, just no...

Tree Tops is tops when it comes to ambiance.

It is highly recommended that you walk up the rustic path (not recommended for those hard of walking - but oh such an advanture in the midst of the city), to the Old House perched on top of a hill amidst the greens, at 6.30 pm to catch the sunset over Kuching City.

If it pours, wait 30 minutes (usually the duration of a Mar - April downpour), then take a leisure walk. There is no canopy to mar the roughly cemented steps. Every now and then you can glimpse the sky over your head. The home-going descend is well lit and equally picturesque.

Surprisingly, there are hardly any mosquitoes despite the lush green n undergrowth. As you ascend / descend you will encounter relics like an old bicycle, and the place where great chicken wings n pork belly are bar-b-qued.

I love the simple Tree Top salad (greens with light salad oil ... not cream ... what a blessing, but then that's my taste), the hot chrysenthenum pot of tea for two or a beer (if you prefer) to wash down the platter (chicken, sausage, pork, lamb, etc) / sphagetti, pasta or rice dishes.

It is advisable to book a table first. Dennis, the young proprietor is responsive and amicable to table cancellation (eg one can turn COVID positive overnight - on our way to be endermic!) or reducing the table seating. It is a pleasant first where the servers offered to help you snap your photos. Excellent service brings the dining experience to a...

Ordered the Aglio Olio Pork, Fish and Chips and Mushroom Soup as mains and appetizers.

Aglio Olio was honestly below expectations, almost disappointing. The pasta was lacking in flavour and heavy on the oil. Definitely need to improve on the pasta recipe. Pork however was good. Tender and crisp in the right places. The chilli sauce brings out the taste of the pork so best to go together. Pasta was the biggest disappointment. 4/10

Fish and Chips was nothing special. Fish is frozen pre-made, either EB Alaska Pollock or Pacific West Fillet. For the price and taste, not worth it. 2/10

Mushroom soup was ok, but too much cheese powder. Tasted clumpy. Soup's taste and texture was similar to instant soup like Campbells or Vono, but I could be wrong. Bread was fine. Not sure if garlic bread or not as I did not taste any garlic. 4/10

Environment was good despite having quite a bit of mosquito. Nice scenery. 7/10

Definitely needs a lot of improvement in terms of taste. For the kind of price you're paying and what you're getting, I would suggest you to just go somewhere else or cook at home coz you can get the same ingredients ready from the supermarket and just follow the cooking instructions. Feels almost like a scam...
